YNWA Diogo Jota 4/12/96 - 3/7/25

I keep finding new things about the situation to both be sad about but also appreciate the value of what we have lost.

I just read that in the last few days, around 400 Gazans were shot while trying to get food. That’s the tragedy of Jota’s family multiplied by a big, big number…

I don’t try to relativise anything by stating this, but I can’t say I’m feeling great when considering the above.

I hear you Hope, totally understand, I can’t watch the news anymore. I get anxiety and insomnia these days.
I have a crisis in my faith. I am thinkng why does God take away the good people and young people and let the bad people get away with murder, fraud and lies?

Well, (as you mentioned God) if you prescribe to the general tenets of the Abrahamic faiths…then this world is but a test and we are but travellers, just passing through it until it’s our time to depart. And the good have passed the test and are mercifully taken to the eternal stage. The ones who bring suffering to this world will only partake of this temporary place. Their forever will not be a happy place.

I was at work at the client when I found out. And we were in the middle of an important deadline so I couldn’t spend much time contemplating while at work.
In the evenings I would read this thread and I have shed many a tear going through all 400+ messages from us as fans, from the team mates, from fellow footballers from other clubs. It’s incredible how an event like this unites people.
I still can’t believe it. Felt lost how we’ve lost one of our own like that. Many things going in my mind: mainly what-ifs like if that tyre didn’t blow out, if they didn’t drive at night, if he only decided to wait a few more days and fly instead. Too late for that now but that doesn’t make the loss any easier to take.
RIP Diogo & Andre.

I’m trying for some days now to write something about this horrifying tragedy. At least to thank Diogo for everything but I just struggle. Even in my native language I can’t find any suitable words.

I’m not a poet or a man of big words. I’m just trying to say..: I never knew Diogo but it hurts like I’ve lost a dear family member.

Thank you Diogo for all the moments of joy and happiness. Due to my challenging health condition you (and whole LFC) really brightened up my afternoons and sometimes even weeks with joy. Thank you again and score plenty of Diogoals up there with your little brother Andre, Eusebio, Coluna, Pele, Maradona and the rest of the gang.

YNWA Diogo and Andre.

RIP Jota. He was an admirable Red. He was a lovely human being. So tragic and senseless the way he went out. We mourn your loss Jota. Best wishes to your grieving family. YNWA.

When Wirtz finally officially came on board I was thinking damn, if Jota stays healthy, with Florian’s prolific chance creation and Jota’s one touch deadeye finishing it could be a potent combination. Sadly not to be.
