Renewal between FC Porto and Luna Esports “eternizes the image of Diogo Jota”
FC Porto and Luna eSports, founded by Diogo Jota, renewed the partnership for two more seasons on Thursday, prolonging the connection started in October 2024. The agreement ensures the continuity of the FC Porto Luna eSports project, which will once again compete with men’s and women’s teams in the EA FC races organized by the Portuguese Football Federation and the Portugal League.
The renovation also introduces a symbolic element: the team’s official sweater will display, on its left sleeve, a badge that eternalizes the image of Diogo Jota. The Portuguese international, founder of Luna eSports, was one of the main drivers of the rapprochement between the club and the digital competitive universe, after having represented FC Porto in 2016/17.
FC Porto will assume much of the operational cost of the project, reinforcing the commitment to esports and consolidate the presence of the FC Porto brand in the digital ecosystem, a segment that continues to grow in followers and competitive relevance.
“FC Porto Luna eSports will compete with men’s and women’s teams in EA FC races organized by the Portuguese Football Federation and Liga Portugal. This renovation also brings an extra detail: the official shirt of FC Porto Luna eSports now includes a badge on the left sleeve that eternalizes the image of Diogo Jota, who was, as is known, one of the great drivers of this connection between his passion for eSports and the club that represented as a footballer in the 2016/17 season,” mentioned the blue and white club on the official website.
André Villas-Boas was proud. “It is the renewal of a winning partnership, which has delivered us many titles, with great pride for the porters. I thank Armando and Ruth for the generosity that we can continue to be partners in eSports. Luna represents what FC Porto represents, a team that wants to win, that wants to win. He spoke just now to Armando of the desire to bring to our international Cups the World Cup of eSports. Armando knows our demand and I’m sure this will be a winning partnership. Then there is all the emotional meaning, related to Diogo and what he represents to eSports, his great passion. We could not be more proud that Diogo’s family will allow us to take this step together,” he said.
“This modality is part of eclectic growth. We enter the era of modernity and eSPorts, which have an immense and increasingly growing audience. It is the continuation of the eclectic history of FC Porto on the digital road, but with the same pride and sense of victory. Objectives? We continue with that demand to Porto that Ruth and Armando know very well. We have already delivered titles to the Museum in both the male and the feminine, in individual and collective. We couldn’t be more proud,” he added.
Armando Vale, from Luna eSports, considered: “For us and also for FC Porto it has a very great importance this continuity, also for all the meaning that has behind it. And it is also important for the eSports landscape at the national level, where the impact is expected to be more immediate, although, as the president said, it is also expected to be beyond the national panorama. Goals are always to come in to win. That’s what we promised. That is the ambition with which we have entered for this season. We looked at all the competitions with the desire to want to win them, as happened last year, a time that bore a lot of fruit and was quite laughing for us. The same ambition, the same will. As long as it goes here we will be to try to deliver as many trophies as possible.”
Diogo Jota has not been forgotten. "Better than anyone, Diogo was a great ambassador of the sport. Because I passed this house, which tells you a lot, it would make perfect sense for the connection to continue. It will always be a reason for extra strength and something that, with each achievement, will make us proud a little more than because it is just, in quotation marks, another achievement.
