YNWA Diogo Jota 4/12/96 - 3/7/25

Horrendous  RIP

It is an unusual enough case that I think it is warranted. I’d be in support of it. If not least because I sure as shit would not want to wear the number now if I was coming into this team.

RIP Jota and brother and condolences to their family. Awful news.

I can’t see them using it in the near future. Aside from anything else, it could be distressing for his other teammates.

In the future, it could be something for younger players to aspire to. Particularly if they were Portuguese themselves.

This is simply so incomprehensible that it will take a while to process - I absolutely know that sometime next month I will find myself wondering why Slot didn’t at least put Jota on the bench, and then the dull ache of realization will set in.

Just wake up to this horrid news. My heart is broken. Incredible sadness, especially for his wife and children. I know what they will be going through. :sob:

Just seen a pic of the car…no ones surviving that

This has been bothering me all morning. If there is the slightest glimmer of hope to be had it’s that it would have been quick.
Shouldn’t be dwelling on it, I’m just fucking devestated.

Unlike in the Spanish league where the squad shirts have to be given from 1-25 , we have an option to not use that shirt for the near future. Atleast 5-6 years if not more than that.

Joining us in 2020, wearing 20, and playing a key part to us winning the 20th. 20 will always be special to us.

A very good friend rang me last night to say he had only months to live. He has had a relatively long and happy life but of course I was really sad to hear his news and didn’t know what to say. However it is just his time to go.

But two young lives lost in such tragic circumstances is on a completely different level. Heart goes out to his family. There are no words…

Yeah I lost two friends in car accidents when I was in my late teens. They were 19/21 and it’s just a horrific feeling.

It’s the suddenness of such a situation, and you still expect it’s some reality that you’ll wake from. You expect them to be back on the rec that weekend or calling around and yet no. They never will.

It’s different to a long illness, you can never prepare for the finale but you know it will come. With this kind of death it’s hard.

How many times have people checked this actually real? I think I’m on my fifth or sixth go, and it’s stubbornly refusing to turn out to have been a prank or misinformation. I’ve even been through a’ well, how reliable even are the bbc these days’ moment. I feel like I’ve been kicked in the stomach.

Diogo you will always be in our hearts.

For all intents , a real committed family man.

Soft spoken , unassuming and came across as a great guy (isn’t just restricted to him in our club but we do have the no dickheads policy).

I saw it on the TIA fb page and I thought it was a nasty prank. I refreshed it and immediately came here. Then my friends started messaging me. Then my eldest messaged me from her working holiday in Vietnam.
