2026 FIFA World Cup qualification

Suspect some of those are actively considering it,given the orange ones total inability to put a sock in it.

Even Sepp Blatter said don’t go. (KC and the Sunshine Band song “Please don’t go” or Yazoo’s “Don’t go” popped into my head.)

Sepp who reeked of everything corrupt is back taking the moral high ground!!!

You couldn’t make this shit up.

I wonder how much bribery $ he has left after the 94 WC (where was that held again) and everything else he touched.

The WC will be fine despite all the fuckwitery.

It’s not the best endorsement. The “poor” lawyer is probably praying for a Sepp retraction.

Bloody hell, Blatter has grown old, hasn’t he?

Been about 70 for four decades

Take heed.
Wine, women and song eventually take their toll

Oh, FFS. That’s where two of the Scotland games are being held that they have scheduled at stupid o’clock.

Move them to Mexico or Canada, in fact move the whole thing to there.

I’m so conflicted. Found out a couple days ago that I got tickets to see the Dutch play in Houston on 20 June. Seeing the Oranje in a WC match is a bucket list item, yet I think I’d rather see Netherlands take a stance and NOT play in this country.

Important caveat is this is referring to the official FIFA zone. The burden to support these per FIFA’s requirements are now so big that with the range of concerns the host cities have over attendance not a single host city is going to comply. It’s a shocking development, but I think what we’ll see is the Cities will work independently to set up non-FIFA fan zones. Given most games arent being played in the actual city (stupid American stadium planning), I think what we’re going to see is the city proper putting on a range of non-FIFA licensed fan zones that are going to be more accessible, closer to where the tourists are actually going to be and want to be, and probably cheaper to attend without having to pay the FIFA overhead.

This is a decent article on Jersey recently become the final host city to pull the plug on theirs. Acknowledged in the piece are the plans both NYC and NJ are making to put on a range of smaller events.

As things stand, New York/New Jersey does not currently have an official FIFA Fan Fest organized for the tournament. When it comes to FIFA’s official fan festivals, the burden placed on host cities is significant. Multiple sources — all of whom wished to remain anonymous when discussing sensitive information — said security costs alone for a Fan Fest could exceed $1million per day in major markets.
FIFA’s initial ask, as per a contract reviewed by The Athletic, was that every host city would provide an official Fan Fest free of charge to spectators for every day of the competition. Yet this will now not be the case in any market, as cities have pushed back on the cost and responsibilities involved.

I actually think an event in Liberty State Park would have cool, as the views from the Jersey side of the river are incredible. But if you assume most travelling fans will be in Manhattan and wanting to spend their time there, it isnt actually that easy of a commute. And if you are not going to the game, why be in Jersey when you can be in the City?

I’ve heard there are thousands of England and Scotland fans heading for Spain for a few weeks to watch the games on the fanzone big screens that will be in place - Should be interesting eh :0)

Now the Mexican games are in real trouble. Pureto Vallarta is on fire with cartel violence making the Guadalajara games a real risk

Canada are also going to lose games. Stadiums being commandeered to practice ice hockey.

FIFA is apparently 'what-if’ing moving some Mexico games to Canada. US games aren’t in peril, but there are sufficient problems that they don’t want to double down. Where it gets awkward is that FIFA has been crapping all over the Canadian venues/cities, having already been fairly shoddy in their dealings with other potential host cities and the volunteer community that would need to step up. Montreal in particular is not inclined to listen to any more bullshit.

Football especially some MLS support comes across as quite liberal. FIFA need this to be a great success for their Daddy but it would surprise me if he shows up for many games.

What a pahlava!

Now Mexico are having sporadic violence, because a drug lord got shot dead and his workers decide to go on a burning cars, buildings and blocking roads to cause major chaos.

I hope this violence diminishes soon. This must be a huge headache for the Mexican government, a few months before a World Cup
