Why does he sound like Trump???
This has its own thread by the way.
This is going to be the experience at the overwhelming majority of games in the US next summer
These out of town stadiums are designed around supporting 10s of 1000s of parked cars for locals and there is neither the infrastructure not logistical experience to manage the exit of 60k fans at the same time who need to get rides back into the city
I don’t think any country or city (which doesnt have the proper sporting infrastructure in place) should be eligible to host the world cup.
I mean stadiums in the vicinity of the city , proper transportation facilities etc. Not so much hotels and the other ancillary real estate development that happens.
Nothing against US hosting the cup. They did host the one before in 94. But they could have stuck to the cities which already have that sporting infrastructure.
This is described a 2 mile walk from the stadium to the ride share hub. What it doesnt describe is that these are at best stroads - weird American style intermediate roadways that have some neighborhood connecting characteristics that you might expect pedestrians to walk through, but designed as throughfare for cars that make them unsuitable for pedestrians.
It is an absolute clusterfuck that is going to be present for all but about 2 of the US based stadiums.
That will be a clusterfuck. Keeping in mind that US (in quite a lot of cities excepting NY/Chicago) has really bad public transportation infrastructure as it is.
I imagine car rental agencies will make some huge money. That is assuming there will be tourists there and ICE agents don’t go stalking the 2 mile road asking tourists for passports and detaining people etc.
And NY/ Chicago have passable public transportation. Dated but still serves a modicum of purpose.
Chicago wasnt selected and the stadium in “new York” is actually in New Jersey and is one of these suburban monstrosities miles from anywhere. Look at this aerial shot - 75% car park, and nothing for miles
Was too young in 94 to really understand that.
Fair enough.
It’s going be a mess I feel. At this rate you might have to move the World Cup to the winter permanently and it’s not going improve. The world keeps electing people who at best play lip service.
Well stop sending it to tin pot dictatorships would be a start. Three world cups in a row now…
