I think the ownership meeting with Isak was a last gasp attempt to see if they can convince him to stay. I think if he stood firm, they’d end up selling.

It also contradicts their claim that they never planned to sell him this summer.
It remains to be seen how much of this is just posturing. But what’s obvious to me is that they would have sold Isak by now if they landed another striker.

I don’t think this is going to happen. I expect that Sandcastle will get JSL and will offer Isak a much improved contract which he will accept. Because, money.
I think the owners are more concerned about not losing face in this situation. They don’t want their fans to see them as being a small club supposedly being ‘bullied’ by a big club. Because they’re a big club now! Way aye man.
We need to get a forward in ASAP and I think we should get Rodrygo before one of our rivals get him. Imagine signing Rodrygo and parading him before the Arsenal game just to boil their piss.

Isn’t that standard for these football rumour/banter websites … they make me pray for a nuclear holocaust in 10 minutes (sorry I’m stealing Bill Hicks material).
How about we sign someone just because it will improve the squad. I couldn’t give a fig what “Europe’s greatest club side” care about anything. In fact I find that is another thing that can get in the bin, parading signings before a match.

Saying this all along, yes we are thin upfront but at the back too.
I don’t understand why the talk of them needing a replacement is even a talking point to sell him. Hes not playing at the moment they aren’t replacing someone who has played first 2 games of the season.
If Isak accepts a new contract it will probably be because Newcastle refused to sell him and it has a release clause in, rather than just because they offer to pay him more.
