Alexander Isak (CF) Newcastle

In two years the outlay on Szob, Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Endo will be outside the reporting period.

Isak and Ekitike are the replacements for Diaz and Nunez. Those two plus Salah and Gakpo is a world class four man rotation. Plus you could play Chiesa, Wirtz and Szobo on the front line as needed, and Rio sounds poised to get first team minutes this year, likely in cup matches.

I want to be clear - I understand the skepticism about the possibility. I’d still put it at 10% at best, and the only reason it’s not at zero is basically dependent on certain circumstantial evidence:

  • It is well known, among even local journalists, that Isak is Liverpool’s dream signing.
  • Liverpool has consistently shown a willingness to sanction significant outlays for certain special players. Van Dijk, Alisson, Mbappé, Bellingham, Caicedo, Wirtz, and now Isak.
  • Liverpool has approached Newcastle already discussing a deal in the 120M range, which is not far from Newcastle’s mooted 150M valuation.
  • Howe’s comments make it sound like the door isn’t totally closed to them doing business.

Also, lots of wishful thinking.

There’s a chance we can sign both Ekitike and Isak ?

Realistically you don’t spend 80m for a backup, but what do I know at this point

We won’t need defenders with that quality forward line…

Realistically, we do need two forwards after losing Jota, selling Nunez, and Diaz being halfway out. There’s no way Salah, Gakpo, Ekitike, and Chiesa are enough as our forward options for next season.

We aren’t getting Isak in all probability.

We still have Doak there. There’s interest coming in from Everton and we might well decide to move him on. But as of now, He’s a Liverpool player. Frimpong can play in RW if needed as well too.

As of now (assuming both of Diaz and Nunez go and Ekitike joins

LW - Gakpo / Chiesa / Koumas
CF - Ekitike / Another CF / Danns / Gakpo
RW - Salah / Chiesa / Doak / Frimpong

It’s clear that we need a LW as well alongside a CF especially if a player the quality of Diaz goes)

Interestingly both Ekitike and Isak are people who favour the left hand side more. And in theory can play there as well. If we get Ekitike in for close to whatever amount we get for Diaz and the Nunez sale subsidizes a chunk of the cost for Isak. Who knows ? Doesn’t look likely. But then there are others like Elliot / Morton / Doak / Tsimikas or Robbo who will raise sizable amounts to offset the purchase of a Striker.

Koumas and Danns most likely aren’t ready for first team yet but if we can have one of them (Most probably Danns as a third - fourth choice CF). It might just save us some money in this season.

We’ve been actively selling him since last season. I don’t see any of Dans, Rio, or Koumas near the first team next season. They’re now likely three levels below what we need.

The ambiguity comes from exactly where I said, plus all the follow up reports that suggest the same. I don’t know where you’re getting he was definitively on loan.

Please do tell how we indirectly replace the mainstay of the defence of near on a decade?

I’m not sure on Rio. I think he might be a surprise package this season. He seems to have the physical maturity, and the worst you can really say about him is that he can beat a man with ease but his end product needs work.

Well, to me that sounds like Doku, and Man City had no problem with playing him on the left.

And we’ve quoted a price of 30m for him. We might end up getting 24-25m but that shows he’s still valued highly. And if we get 50m for Elliot , 15-20m for Morton. That added to whatever we get for Nunez should pay a big chunk of whatever second CF we decide to get moving forward. That CF might be Isak (even though it looks very unlikely at this point)

Is Frimpong a winger or defender?

He’s being touted as someone who can play a RW. The games i’ve seen him play , he played pretty advanced for a wingback.

I agree we need two strikers with Nunez going and what happened with Jota, but I would expect someone cheaper and maybe more experienced to play second fiddle. I’m not complaining though, I’m enjoying the chaos with us at the centre of everything!

Elmo en el infierno

And we really don’t know where Wirtz fits in. Does he play as a 10 with Dom as an advanced 8 ? Does he play as a left sided inside forward ? or a false 9 ?

I am assuming that he’s being brought on with some promises on his playing preferences.

T’was just an open question. I do not really know him as a player. Oddly, the same could be said of all the incoming - which is not a slight against them, just a nod to how out of touch I am…
