Finance wise likely yes but we do need non-homegrown player slots in the squad to be cleared. At the moment, if Diaz goes, we don’t have more players then non-homegrown slots anymore but to free up non-homegrown spot, we need Kostas or Darwin to go.
Dont think it’s an issue. That’s not a new strategy and delaying our bid for Isak or any other forward just increases the cost on that end. If it had been, i suspect we would have just accepted the offer we had earlier in the summer for him.
Nobody knows when is the right moment, but from what it’s been reported, it seems that no, we don’t have to sell Nunez first, we can now proceed with buying Isak.
We look ok with non-homegrown slots now. Even accounting for the stricter UEFA requirements that will require us to register Kirkez on the A list (wont have to in the PL) we’re at only 17 after the changes of this week (Hugo in and Diaz out). There are at least 2 on that list of 17 who are highly likely to expected to leave before the season starts - a LB (presumably Kostas after Robbo being named VC) and Darwin.
The above is also assuming we dont intend to register Pecsi in Europe.
Yes I agree we should be able to clear some spots and be okay by the end of the transfer window when everything is done but if we sign the new players before we have cleared the room, it might hurt our bargaining position with other clubs knowing we need to sell… although I suppose there is always loaning out that we could do with someone if really stuck.

(presumably Kostas after Robbo being named VC)
Rumours of Robbo being given the VC are a bit premature. Andy said yesterday after the game nothing has been decided.

it might hurt our bargaining position with other clubs knowing we need to sell…
But if you sell first buying clubs know you’re sitting on a wedge of cash.
Reality is we’ll find buyers because Nunez will not want to have another season like last year and he’s seen two strikers come in you’d assume would be ahead of him in the pecking order.
His agent will be fully aware of Liverpool’s intentions. He’ll know where his client will be willing to move to. Ultimately our bargaining position is dictated more by the players wishes and his agent getting someone to make a offer for him than it is by buying clubs thinking we need to move players on.
If he’s adamant he’s not going to Saudi it doesn’t matter if they offer us £100m. If he wants to stay in Europe his agent needs to find a suitable destination for him at a club that can afford the fee we’re asking.
The other club has to be able to afford and agree he is worth the price we are asking. That’s going to be a limited number of clubs but lets wait and see, plenty of time left to go and stances will change as the window progresses and it doesn’t have to be just Darwin that moves on to give us the needed homegrown spots we need for anyone else we bring in.
It will be interesting to see how high we are willing to go for Isak, and whether or not Newcastle will price him out of a move.
My guess is we will make three record bids, £120M/£125M/£130M, all + £10M with realistic add-ons. By the time we get to the third bid, £140M all in, if Newcastle turn it down we might decide to let them stew.
They have a disaffected player and they need to spend money to refresh their team/squad.
If think the deal gets done at £140M all in. Just guessing.
Edit
Or arguably £100M plus Harvey Elliott, if they like the player.
I don’t think it gets that high, now that Isak’s told Newcastle he wants to explore his options (or whatever he said).
It’ll be more than we spent on Wirtz though.

Or arguably £100M plus Harvey Elliott, if they like the player.
brilliant move by Howe…all played into his hands in the end…
If Newcastle wraps up Sesko this week, I think Liverpool will see that as their opening to make a bid.

If Newcastle wraps up Sesko this week,
The way their transfer window has gone so far, Sesko will likely end up signing for Sunderland
Or Liverpool reserves
I believe he told them not to bother bidding for him he will only go to Liverpool.
I am probably a wierdo, but I find it a bit odd to indulge to the degree where you are willing to take the chance to buy 2 100mil + players in a single window. Because it’s not likely that both of them will be worth the exorbitant and quite frankly, ridiculous price.
Is Isak truly this amazing ? We are talking about Florian (super fucking expensive), the Etikeke for 95 mil Eur and then Isak for over a 100 ?
Maybe it is just me though, but I find the expense beyond ridiculous for only 3 players. The money is insane. But if the club wants to spend such silly money, ok, I guess.
I think Dias should have spoken to Mane to ask him how his stint at Bayern went before deciding the move but then again he has the option to go to Saudi if it doesn’t work out.
I’m talking about waiting for Nunez before we put in a bid.
I hear you! The fee for Isak could get ridiculous and for me, while he is obviously an excellent striker, I’m not sure I would be paying it given the injury record. Still, if the deal completes, I will be as excited as any red.
We have been saving up for a while, and when added to our success, it enables us to have a window like the one we are seeing. We are making bold moves, within PSR, and setting ourselves up for the next cycle.
I don’t think this is the new norm and I fully expect several low key windows to come, but this summer will be remembered for a long time.
I am pretty much over this Isak saga now, while I would like to see him here but not at stupid money given his injury record, which might not get better in time.
It also seems we need possibly 2 CBs now, with one ready to roll next month, unless the FSG piggy bank is overflowing and needs emptying maybe a change of direction is due. This might leave Howe with a very unhappy player, but at the end of the day that is Newcastle’s call.
