Yes. It feels like once Newcastle have bought Sesko then the talks for Isak can begin in earnest. It feels like Isak wants to leave Newcastle now.

I still like Nunez but, of course, if it’s a straight choice between keeping Nunez and signing Isak then it’s the Swede all the way.
That being said, in a different system I genuinely think he could make a real impact in this league still. If I were Newcastle I would be giving him serious consideration.

I’d comfortably avoid him.
I’m in the same boat. I like a show of true ambition as much as any other fan (i.e. buying the right player, not any expensive player) but this level of spending is unprecedented for this club, even though everything is said to be in line with PSR. This must be how Man City and Chelsea fans feel… We just need to learn to tap up players ahead of signing them on a free and then we’ll also know how Real Madrid fans feel!

My thoughts as well. Basically I think Nunez needs to be part of a forward two, pulling to the left. That’s how he was used at Benfica when he was pretty unplayable.

Nobody blocked him from being part of a forward two, we changed the shape last season.
Want to go to slightly to the left channel and do a bit of Thierry Henrying? We’re welcoming that with open arms.
But the next excuse would probably be that it should’ve been Dennis Bergkamp instead of Dominik Szoboszlai slightly behind him. Which I would understand.

We’re spending money earned from success, with Klopp leadership enabling us to punch above our weight, build a quality squad, then complete manager transition perfectly. Also being financially prudent for years. Couldn’t be any less like Chelsea or City

Not sold on the guy. 120m+? Nah, swerve him and keep the powder dry for someone who is worth that money (or two players, or three…), even if it means keeping Nunez and waiting until next summer.

I agree. I think Darwin would still be very annoying to play against because of his pace and strength. I wouldn’t even mind keeping him because I think he may come with a point to prove.
However, there is a significant risk in that another poor season probably drives down his value in half. I’d rather sell him now and bring in Isak.
But if it doesn’t happen, I don’t think it’s a disaster.
54 goals and 10 assists in 86 Premier League games… (23 in 34 this year, 21 in 30 last year and 10 in 22 the year before)
We know how reluctant the recruitment team can be to spend money, so the fact they are reportedly willing to go so big for Isak probably indicates that they don’t really see anyone better for us being on the market this year and probably next.

Replacing Salah’s goals and assists is going to be imperative in the not too distant future and his figures and game and general career trajectory suggest that he is about as close as anyone out there to get at least somewhere close to the goals while Wirtz should make up the assists. I honestly cannot see anyone else remotely achievable, number one, or vastly cheaper, number two.
I think that we have to come around to the fact that by cultivating a basically priceless asset in Salah it’s going to take some ingenuity and a load of cash to replace.
