Probably the same VVD thing which is happening here. We’ve convinced Isak that we’re the club he wants to be at.
Meanwhile , get the Guehi deal done and then wait till newcastle blink at the Jan window. It’s never easy for a club to continue to field an unsettled player.
I do think there is a disconnect between the owners and Howe. He wants to sell him and have it over and done with but the owners are saying he’s not for sale. Howe will have to deal with an unhappy player and also it will have an affect on the team and the season. I’m sure he wants a couple of strikers but the owners aren’t going to buy him one who could replace Isak. It’s why I think Wissa will drag on until close to the end of the window as well. They’ve got an excuse already prepared.
Calm down look at the person who sent it and check online first if he works for the paper and second that the editor has allows him to write BS. to be genuine he has to be a Newcastle ITK or a pal of Howe.
I’ve tried to map it out in my mind what we might do if Isak doesn’t sign.
I think he will sign, late in the window, but just in case that doesn’t happen, what will we do?
My best guess is we will line up a late loan move for Rodrygo, with an option to buy. He will add depth, quality and versatility, while we can see if there is a chance for Isak in January.
I think we need a forward before the window closes either way. That both Slot and Van Dijk called for another striker leads me to believe that they’re going to make an aggressive push for Isak over the next few days, and then perhaps pivot elsewhere if they can’t get it done in this window.
I do think it’s likely that they go back in for Isak in the winter window if they can’t get it done by the close of August, but I don’t think they finish this summer window without adding at least one more forward.
"Understand Newcastle had indicated a willingness to engage on Isak, so Liverpool made their bid. It was made with optimism, which is why the strong and quick rejection was a surprise.
Now that it has been rebuffed, Liverpool will not engage without encouragement.
They haven’t walked away, and the saga is not yet over. But Liverpool only want to bid again if Newcastle make it clear they are not wasting their time. Should a new bid arrive, both clubs must be on the same page and then an exit is likely."
edit
Alexander Isak will only consider reintegrating at Newcastle or signing a new deal if Liverpool directly inform him a deal is impossible this summer. Isak is waiting to see if Liverpool bid again. The club haven’t walked away as it stands, but have no plans to place a second offer unless given clear encouragement from Tyne-side.
It’s one performance, but I do think Ekitike looks really good. Will this alter our plans at all? Could we go for a much cheaper rotation option with Ekitike and a versatile forward of the Rodrygo mould?
