Yeah some odd wording including the “end of the race”.
If we sign him I doubt see us signing Mount.

Decent player, I will be glad if we sign him. Waiting to see the blend though, as the picture isn’t complete yet, and we need a better athlete added as well, and/or a very good number 6, who will tackle everything and not let teams through, like Ugarte.
I wonder if they mean that we’re giving them £50m plus Kelleher, or something similar.
Maybe they owe us for Lallana still.
Unless there is something about Milner that isn’t known.
Straight swop for Keita would do very nicely :0)
£70m seems like an awful lot of money.
Given Jude is £120m, £70m doesnt seem too wild.
I don’t know much about Macalister, but considering that he has performed very well in a Brighton team, won the World Cup and would be sought after, 60-70m is probably the right price for such a player and not 120m for a player who rightly MIGHT become one of the best in the world. Again its not a hit on Jude, its a hit on paying the right price for a player. Everything is inflated but like Klopp said, internally, we will still focus on the right player with the right price.
My hope was that he would have a clause in there, for something like £50M. He was on a free this summer, if he didn’t sign a new deal with Brighton. So my hope was he would sign a new deal, but ensure a win-win.
Brighton get a payday, as they gave him his Prem break. Only not so much that the money is getting unreasonable, or he is being priced out of a move, which happened to Caicedo (though that will come again for him).
In return, MacAllister gets a pay raise, the security of being under contract in case a horrible injury happened, and then, presumably, the cooperation of Brighton for a smooth deal at a fair price.
£70M seems like the going rate, and if that’s what it is, then so be it. But it is not a great price, and not a price a fella with a year on his deal should have agreed.
Obviously nothing is done, and we don’t know the price as it is just newspaper talk. But I was hoping for £50M or so!
If 50m, then its a steal. Of course 50m is best but for 60-70m, its not excessive for current market. It also depends on how we want to pay for him I guess.
Mac Allister is more of an offensive midfielder than what we have right now. But he’s pretty small, he’s only 5’9 159 lbs. So he would need a midfield destroyer next to him to make up for his lack of physicality on the pitch. Also even though Mac Allister scored 10 goals this past season, 6 of them were from penalty kicks. So in open play, don’t expect him to be this prolific goal scorer or anything like that.
Hopefully though Mac Allister could take charge of an advanced playmaking #8 role as most of our midfielders are way too satisfied with just passing the ball backwards and acting quite passively when it comes to the attack. He only had 1 assist in the league in 30 games though, so that doesn’t suggest to me that he’s a prolific playmaker either.
Does this really sound like worth 70m or he just needs the right system to flourish with LFC? Also does adding a player like Mac Alister mean that we finally move to a 4231 setup to take advantage of his talents?
That’s rather surprising isn’t it? As an attacking midfielder?
As fans I think we always want to see goals from midfield. Most of us witnessed Gerrard’s entire career which set a high bar of a Liverpool midfielder.
With that said, I don’t think the midfield under Klopp needs that kind of midfielder. Sure it’s an absolute bonus if they can, but I think the higher priorities are being able to press effectively, ball retention and an eye for a pass. All of which Mac Allister has in spades.
With the looser role for Trent and the developing front line, perhaps the midfield responsibilities might change, but I suspect those basic traits will still be the priority for new players.
Our main issue with our midfield is zero goals and doesn’t create much.
Our midfield that won everything are hardly known for scoring. They had other jobs that they did so well to enable those who were supposed to score, score plenty.
The main issue with our midfield is lack of awareness/physical capability to defend.
He played as a DM double-pivot for the first half of the season (16 times in the league), which probably explains that being on the low side.
He’s quite versatile positionally, the player from our recent past I think of the most with him is Gini, although I think he’d play on the more offensive end of the scale for us than Gini generally did.
I think he’s a smart player who can be utilised in whatever tactical setup Klopp looks to play.
Okay, hear me out Brighton. We’ll give you The Ox and Naby for Mac…it’s a great 2 for 1 deal!
It is, especially for a club like LFC.
He’s a 50m player with a 20m premium on his head for English clubs.
They already got Milner, so it’s three for one.
