An Comhrá na hÉireann - The Ireland Thread!

How significant is the issue of immigration/migrants/refugees likely to be in the next election? It seems to be the magic elixir of rightwing populism everywhere right now.

The Far Right are a disparate and disorganised group of small organisations, all with diverse agendas.
Anti Migration.
Racism
Anti Transsexualism
Anti Vaccinations
Education
Chemtrails theories
Use of cash
Etc

They lack (thankfully) a credible or charismatic binding force. They are so lacking in imagination that Conor McGregor is considered a good candidate at some point.

They have a very small Nazi style group, complete with uniforms that appear occasionally, but are not taken seriously by the organisers…
Then they have former mainstream journalists like John Waters and Gemma Doherty that are screaming for atrention but are routinely ridiculed.

If they dropped their differences and unitedunder a credible leader I would worry.
Some thought a guy called Ben Gilroy was it, but he is a fuckwit of epic proportions.

What scandals? They were doing pretty good a few months ago.

Brian Stanley, a senior TD has resigned from the party, amid a police investigation.
They suspended a senator for inappropriate texts to a 17 year old.
A TD in Kildare resigned over the selection process for next election.

They are in disarray at the moment.
Mary Lou is swiping at government in the Dail, with no cogent plan for what Sinn Fein would do.
I felt after last election that they would build, but they fared badly in European and local polls.

On top of this, they are a target for far right supporters, who are knowingly funded by UVF supporters.

Sadly there are more than 20 of them

On a lighter note, some good news.
One of our member Reds finally got married last week.
Marc, aka Darkvoid finally dappered up in a fine suit with his beautiful soul mate after 26 year’s together in a beautiful Celtic ceremony in the Forest. He was in the local papers too, a wedding with a twist.
I couldn’t see Marc taking his vows in a Catholic church😂.

Despite jury intimidation, despite the bravado.
The prick wasn’t strutting today.

Fair play to Nikita Hand.

The evidence makes for painful reading. Makes you wonder how he was not found guilty in the criminal trial.

Him being a very dislikeable prick probably didn’t help his defence.

I wonder if the DPP can reopen the case?
Surely the burden of evidence is enough for a criminal conviction?

Civil standards of evidence are much lower, because someone can be held responsible on the balance of probabilities. A criminal process would likely have dismissed much of that evidence. Most prosecutors, anywhere, would dearly love to improve the conviction rate for sexual assault, but it is the nature of the crime that most of the times the evidence for criminality is weak.

I understand that, but her sticking to her guns and the strength of her personal evidence is compelling.
Her admittance to having had alcohol on the night made her story believable. I have no doubt that a criminal lawyer would try to tear her asunder, but she seems to be made of stern stuff.

€250,000 is fuck all to him, but life changing for her. The bitrerest pill is that he still is free whilst lesser criminals are locked up.

I think the DPP had already decided there wasn’t enough evidence to bring a case against him, that’s why the civil case. I would imagine without hard evidence these types of cases would be difficult to bring before the courts.

Yep.
The pity is that scumbag walks free.
Despite her bravery.

We’ve always known what he’s like, unfortunately he has a huge fan base who will still follow him while excusing his actions no matter what.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the President-elect calls him “Ireland Trump”.

Earlier this year there was talk of him running in our next presidential campaign. Weather or not that was idle speculation it still filled me with dread at the thought of him representing us on the world stage.

Surely whatever chance there was of that, its dead in the water now

Yeah, but bertie or the monk might try fill that void.Would rather get someone serious in who can hold their head high and represent us respectably rather than be there to promote themselves to fill their pockets.
