Personally think he’s got longer left with us, especially with a bit more rotation in the form of Kerkez, but also can’t deny he has looked very leggy for the past two seasons. Whatever he chooses I hope goes well for him, but would prefer he stay a bit longer
I’m fairly relaxed about the situation. I think he definitely started to show signs of decline last season, and if we’re evolving into a side with even more aggressive, offensive full-backs like Frimpong and Kerkez, who will be expected to bomb constantly up and down the flanks, that would likely expose Robbo even more.
On the other hand, at still only 31 he’ll likely not happily see himself as the no2 and I’d have no problem if he wanted to make a move somewhere where he’d still be first-choice.
Equally, if he wants to stay and is happy being back-up then no issues with him doing that either. I guess we’ll see how this plays out.
If he leaves, I’ll be happy that he left as a PL winner, regardless of winning everything prior to that. It will be very difficult to come to terms with that, I love him to bits - but it would be much more difficult to see him continue his decline that started last season (though people will say it started earlier than that).
Like @ZinedineBiscan, I’m relaxed about this situation - though selling him now would probably mean that Liverpool actually make a profit that would go towards PSR.
He’s definitely declined but he’s not washed up. He’ll have a proper preseason and he’ll be far fresher with Kerkez around, which means that he’ll be closer to his world-class best. Plus, he along Van Dijk and Salah are the heart and soul of this team.
I don’t want him to go and neither should the club.
Liverpool is asking for a modest fee to let Andrew Robertson leave, whose contract expires in 2026.
Atlético Madrid considers Robertson an achievable target after completely halting negotiations with Milan for Theo Hernández: the gap between the clubs is considered excessive by the Red and Whites.
Robertson has already said yes to Atlético Madrid.
Matteo Moretto
Be very surprised (and sad) if this happened.
Robbo’s on a bit of a decline, but still so much to offer on and off the field.
Plus, who’d be our Scot in the team?
If it happened, think it would mean that the internal stats kept by the club, or Slot’s view, is that a much steeper decline for Robbo’s performance metrics is projected.
Now I know Michael Edwards is back in charge. This feels like exactly the kind of thing that led to Edwards’ departure in the first place. Edwards thought Hendo should have been allowed to run down his contract, Klopp had the Club extend it. I think hindsight shows Edwards was right.
Similarly, this is the right time for Andy to leave. He’s been a great servant for the Club. If Kerkez comes - as is more than likely - Andrew Robertson will be a back up. Excuse me, but Andrew Robertson is no back up Liverpool player. He’s our left back. If we are to part ways, let’s part ways with the memories we have of each other, not with memories of him playing only occasionally, as a sub. Tsimikas can remain to play back up.
Bonus: he’ll be up against TAA in La Liga. Hope Andy wins it.
It was always going be him or Tsimikas. Playing saying yes to it suggests nothing. We will play hardball I reckon we will probably want what Kerkez is costing.
