Udogie yes, Spence is more of a RB anyway, Davies’ contract is running out and picked up an injury and they signed Souza, who is young and who knows what his level is like.
It is a valid question for Robbo, but obviously he might also want a new challenge, financial aspect, etc.
I think it’s short sighted to let him go. He is still one of the best full backs in the World and can still lift the whole teams performance just from being out there. The fact that he has slowed down a bit has just brought him down to the same level as the best in the Prem. We are spoiled having seen him at his peak and expecting that to continue at world class level.
Kerkez on the other hand, reminds me of every left back we had before we signed Andy. Full of youthful energy but lacking in leadership and influence on most games. He hasn’t formed partnerships on the field with midfielders and made Gakpo look worse with his runs to nowhere. We are just relieved he has stopped making so many dreadful errors.
This move is another example of Slot dismantling the high tempo transitional approach to his slow ball controlled possession. That being said he’s aging and I do think that Robbo needs to be replaced over the next couple of years. That process should be a recognition of what he does being passed on to his replacement
We used to be so good at this organic development of the Liverpool we all came to love. We watched new players skills being slowly grafted into the team DNA and built leaders all over the pitch. It was a family that fought for each other. I just hate to see it go so quickly.
Keep him and tell Spurs he’s not for sale. Show him he’s wanted for what he brings and use him to help the team bond and develop. Ask him to help Kerkes and those that play around him. Our leaders have become subdued under Slot. He’s a manager that strikes me as someone that doesn’t develop responsibility on the pitch and prefers the autocratic “do as I say” approach.
Personally, I would show the video of Andy putting Messi on the floor and tapping his head to get up to every new player that comes into the club. That’s who we are…let’s not forget it
I think there are examples of that. Sure we lost TAA from the ranks but Virg, Mac, Mo, Ali and Andy have all been absent and quieter in games this season. They are all influencers.
Feels like they are not being consulted. Wouldn’t surprise me if a couple more were thinking it was time to move on.
I get there’ll be a bit of money involved and won’t lose on a free but given how light we are in numbers across the defence and that we’re still playing for top 4, FA Cup and UCL I cant help but feel it would bite us firmly in the ass during the run-in.
Tsimi is a massive downgrade on Robbo should we bring him back from the loan. Not to mention he’s also barely played at Roma.
I am only talking about their perceived need. I agree it doesn’t seem to make much sense for us. But for them, however many LBs they have on their books they felt the need to usher an oft injured, not that mobile Davies straight back into the side after missing the first 5 months of the season and have already lost him again. I can see why Robbo would be attractive to them.
Yeah I think Robbo improves most teams. Still an excellent full back and also has all that experience and leadership skill. Just can’t understand why we’d let him go now
Been to less games this season but have had the privilege to support us at Anfield on a number of occasions. Watched them in Europe and at other grounds in the UK
Talk that if this happens (which I doubt) we’d bring Tsimikas back from Roma. Has he played much / at all there? Not much point if he’s not match fit. I can see some benefit if we get £10m-£15m for Robbo now rather than nothing in the summer. It’s not like Slot seems to rate Andy much anyway.
I think most people are expecting Robbo to leave in the summer, but selling him to Spurs now makes no sense to me. The squad is wafer thin as it is, we don’t need to deplete it anymore. Slot has stated, he’s not expecting any signings during this window. Risk management again.
It will be a strange one and disrespectful if we are the one who is pushing for Robbo to leave. The right way if we are not renewing his contract is to let it expire in the summer. The only way I would accept this is that Robbo is the one who wants to leave. The only thing that Spurs can verbally promise him is more playing time or else it will be hard to think what other motivation he has to move to Spurs.
This is a move that makes sense on paper (getting something for an aging player who you do not plan to re-sign) but does not make sense in the dressing room. Robbo is your vice captain and he’s a leader. This has been a tumultuous season in many respects. Is a few million dollars worth the loss of his presence in the dressing room?
Why should we be ‘cobbling’ it together until the end of the season? We’re one of the wealthiest clubs in the country and we don’t need whatever it is Spurs are offering. Also, every time we have to use Szobo at full back it detracts from our midfield. What next, we let Spurs have Jones as well? We expected the club to strengthen our pool of defenders this window and they appear to be doing the exact opposite.
If Robbo has asked for the move or it is dependent on being in this window, then I think we owe it to him to comply. Getting Tsimi back is fine with me. I always liked him and he’s only not getting time at Roma because he doesn’t fit their style.
Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if post-World Cup we started hearing about that group looking for pastures new, or old, i.e. a return to the homeland for some like Alisson. We will be continuing to transition.
Having said that, I am bit disappointed with Andy pushing for a move in January.
