I may have overdone my response…I apologise. Just generally frustrated like most of us about this season.

Thing is you’ve invented a scenario and got angry about it, We don’t know what happened.

Naive me tells me we pulled the trigger because a new head coach might need Robbo as a CB in a Back3.

I was thinking Slot might need him as cover if Joe’s injury is really bad.

Exactly. It would be madness to let him go now, when we’re down to the bones of our arse defensively.

It seems apparent our consideration of allowing it to happen was dependent on getting in a suitable replacement. Given his contract situation and likelihood he’d be off in the summer anyway, it was reasonable to give consideration to an offer, but we seemingly determined all the moving pieces couldnt be put into place.

Is this a thing now?

Hope someone else gets him.

I love love love Robbo and always will…but he had become a defensive liability. Maybe he needed the team structure such that the midfielder in his side would help out. But as you saw with their goal yesterday, he didn’t cover his man, he ball watched for a split second and that allowed Brentford to score. And that’s not the first time this season, or even the last.

Robbo still has plenty to give and I’m sad he has gone. If it is about playing time, I think he remains a back up to Kerkez even as the manager changes. If it was about the style of football, it/s possible he will have a change of heart if nothing has been signed, but I think he will go.

It’s been said by multiple people involved in his signing including Klopp that his defending needed a lot of work but we believed we could teach him that. I wonder if part of what we saw from him the last two years was less him losing his legs and more a reversion back to his natural state as a result of a new training regime that allowed those learned defensive skills to erode

Robbo was on the decline even in Klopp’s last two seasons at Liverpool.

Nope. That involved deterioration of the midfield that he worked so well with and the last season was taking time to adjust to the new midfield in front of him that offered less protection. And the loss ManƩ on his side was a big deal.ManƩ was this monstrous hybrid player with whom Robbo worked exceptionally well.
