Andy Robertson (LB) to Tottenham

I read it he was open to the move but wasn’t pushing for it.

If you feel you are not wanted for what you bring then it’s difficult to find a reason to stay.

If they had been approached by Spurs it would be disrespectful to not tell Robbo after all he has given us, but it would be on the proviso that we don’t want you to go.

Pleased about this,Andy wasn’t pushing it,so it was elsewhere,in the hierachy, and given our shortage of Defenders it made even less sense.l
Maybe FSG need to look at some other positions come summer.

The move to Spurs has stalled, because we don’t have cover for Kerkez at left back. Yet it looks like we’re prepared to continue with only two fit central defenders, for the rest of the season??

My guess is that they see Robbo as an emergency CB. If a move is off, it probably means that Gomez is properly crocked again.

I’m more than happy for Andy to see the season out with us.

Then again rumours Tsimikas couldn’t be recalled hence.

If the club were actively trying to flog him he would be gone. Getting a bit tired of this conspiracy nonsense

I must admit, I find a lot of the discourse around this fascinating.

I wonder how many people would be complaining about this if we were 12 points clear at the top of the table.

For a player whom many thought were washed up at the start of the season (and pretty much the previous couple of seasons really), there seems to be a lot of sudden changes in sentiment, and I see a lot of comments about the defence being too thin to risk it, which is odd since (a) it’s suggested that this is in combination with recalling Tsimikas, and (b) I’m not sure losing him would make that big a dent on the rest of the defence. It then becomes a question of whether it’s a huge risk of the trade-off of swapping a bench player for another bench player on presumably lower wages.

Sure, emotionally it’s sad if he doesn’t get a proper send-off, but this is a move that could potentially make sense for all parties. But I can’t help but wonder if the reaction here is a lot more emotionally-driven than rationally so.

It surely doesn’t mean that Liverpool were out offering Robbo to anyone who’s willing to buy him for a few quid because he’s free next summer.

Obviously he was open to it, but I understood it that he didn’t push for it and doesn’t mind seeing out the season with us and then perhaps still end up at Spurs in the summer or wherever.

And who knows about Roma’s situation also, regardless how Tsimi played so far, they also have their season and needs.

“If”? This is a confusing comment to make after its seemingly been decided that we’re not going to do it.

That presumably factors in that we have no defensive injuries, the team has gelled well, and we have cover lined up.

I think what confuses me about this, is that it is something that the club would push for rather than the player. If Robbo wants to move on, I totally understand it. I can’t believe that the club would instigate it.

Is that what was happening?

I haven’t read any of the media on it and had just assumed it was something along the lines of Spurs approaching us about a deal, the club letting the player know there was an offer and considering the merits of it and our current circumstances.

It’s more the commentary that I have read about it (and fan speculation) that we have been looking to punt him out.

Good news that Robbo is staying!

This is all I care about, I’ll leave the rest to muse about a great conspiracy from Richard Hughes office.

I am so happy Robbo is staying at least to the end of the season. At least the fans can say goodbye to him properly and he gets a good send off.

What’s confusing, we wouldn’t be discussing it if someone hadn’t made the decision to offload Andy in the first place. It seems logical that it would be Edwards and Hughes. I think Kerkez will make a good player but he is not at the same standard as Andy at his peak. A period of transition where he learned from Andy would have benefited both but they couldn’t wait to get him out the door. Jürgen wouldn’t have stood for it. If you are happy with the thought process of those two in the recruitment and sale of players over the summer fine. I am not. I think we look over recruited in some positions and drastically short in others. Best summed up as a horse designed by a committee that ended up looking like a camel. As for this transfer window, why haven’t we brought in a CB when it was obvious last summer that one was required and given our performances and injuries this season now desperately required?
