Arne Slot - Head Coach

There was growing discussion about Rodgers’ job being at risk throughout the 14-15 season. The form was a huge disappointment, whatever charm he had previously had was replaced by a confrontational sourpus, and with the Raheem thing bubbling up it was obvious the players were seeing it too. With the season ending the way it did against Stoke, and with Carlo and Klopp both becoming available that summer, there was a genuine degree of surprise that he made to the start of the next season.

First Dutch coach to win the premier league but with the previous manager squad now we have added a few stars and we look like a relegation contender, it’s obvious slot is not a good manager and it’s only a matter of time before he is sacked.

Funny that someone mentions Sterling. I remember our only 3 positive individuals from that 14/15 season were Henderson, Coutinho and Sterling. All the rest were below level. And we used Sterling absolutely everywhere, from a single striker in that 3-4-3 shape we introduced, as a winger, second striker, even a RWB. I hope we don’t do the same stupidity with Szobo.

So why didn’t Klopp win it with Klopp’s squad?

Losing that match yesterday in that manner to a team in the bottom 3 was a real shocker…We needed a win to kickstart the climb back to the top 4 but what we got was just more of the same…

19/20 or do Utd fans not count that.

Not until next Sunday anyway.

So I’m a Utd fan now? Fucking state of this place sometimes.

Klopp had that exact squad the year before (bar Chiesa) and finished third.

Why do fans find it so hard to acknowledge that whatever his struggles this year, Slot brought a huge amount to last season’s campaign. He didn’t ’win it with Klopp’s squad’. That’s unnecessarily disrespectful.

Let’s not stop there. Rafa should get no credit for winning the Cgampion’s League because it was Houllier’s squad. It’s a really daft way of thinking.

In retrospect it seems very obviously that as soon as Klopp told them he was ready, Brendan was getting the bullet.

The mancs try to say it don’t count and I agree about the state of the forum some proper wums trying to make themselves feel important. Slot won the premier league with Klopps team and now with hundreds of millions of talent added he hasn’t got a clue and we in the similar form as wolves

I wonder if he would have still been sacked if he won the derby? Seems tough, but I think the decision had already been made.

But he literally did. It was a squad that competed on multiple fronts the season before deep into the spring and had Klopp stayed it would have been expected to be title contenders again. Slot obviously made a significant contribution to how well it went, and we dont demean Fagan for having only delivered with Paisley’s squad (if I remember correctly, only Robinson was added who had any meaningful contribution), but just because it raises uncomfortable questions for us or is used in a demeaning way by some doesnt make it not true

More importantly, the the way this season has gone it is relevant to point out that we are now much worse (a woefully insufficient way of describing the situation) now we have had that squad retooled in the vision of what he wants and pushed out those he didnt trust. And while it is a counterfactual than cannot be disproven, to me it is especially noteworthy that we’d be in a far better place to manage the Ibou related shenanigans of this season had we not binned of Quansah. Not just in terms of the additional body, but in terms of taking away one of the tactics teams have used against us to kill our build up by allowing the clumsy CB to have the ball and just waiting for the build up to implode.

It was already decided during the week.
I used to be on a private LFC forum and a guy on there had great info.
He told us on the FRiday morning that no matter the result Brendan was gone.
I watched the derby round a friends, on way home breaking news…Hed gone.

To be fair it was also swirling so much in the ether by that point that for a few weeks every game was being treated with a if he doesnt win he’s gone attitude and eventually it was going to be right and people were come out of it looking like Indy

I remember one of the reliable journalists at the time saying the decision was done before the Sion game. I remember people saying that Everton was his last game. Kind of surprised it happened Sunday afternoon but expected it to happen with days of that. Don’t think the result would have changed anything. They waited til the break.

Where am I saying 19/20 doesn’t count?

Obviously the team that won the title in 19/20 was completely different to the one that won it in 204/25. Only a handful of players remained.

So if the team that won the league last season was so brilliant they even won it with a useless chump like Slot managing them, why didn’t Klopp win it with exactly the same team?

Is it so hard to acknowledge that Slot did a brilliant job?

You can accept he is having a shit season, and making things much harder for himself (which I do) and you can even want him sacked (which I don’t, yet) but this idea that he has to be tarred and feathered along the way by having a title winning season taken off him because we’ve reverse engineered the narrative to suggest he only won it because it was Klopp’s squad is bullshit. It really is.

And ironically, given your barbs at me, exactly what I’ve seen Mancs saying.

I think we both know what is being implied by ‘he won it with Klopp’s squad’, and it’s a little disingenuous on your part to focus on the literal truth of the statement, while brushing to one side the great honking, flashing subtext going on.

It also ignores the obvious point that Klopp himself told us himself. He put that team together for his successor. It was less ‘his’ team and more whoever came after him - and Slot showed enormous grace to acknowledge that himself.

Obviously, but it also goes without saying that the club thought that Guehi was done. I’m not sure whose fault it was that that deal collapsed while the lad was in Liverpool Kit doing his media work. I’m not sure it is anyone’s fault, but I’m certain it wasn’t Slot’s.

Slots lost it.

No excuse for not playing Gomez or the young lad at the back.
Putting our best midfielder at RB.
Then taking (the atrocious) Konate off and putting another midfielder in defence
Starting isak ahead of Ekitike was a joke.

It reeks of panic, being cluless and just hoping something works. Tactic? What were they? No idea.

Where the players have to take responsibility is pulling out of 50/50s and the moment something goes wrong they fold its utterly unacceptable.
We started ok yesterday but the moment forest had a good 3 mins we never recovered. We just stopped.

Its not just this seaons form its the form since PSG… its relegation form.

If he loses to West ham he should go. The PSV result is irrelevant to me.

Wasnt it Slot that put Gravenberch in that deeper midfield role? Klopp never spotted that opportunity, or decided against it.

For me Slot now, at the very least needs to do something different. His current ideas are simply not working. I want to see that reaction first before deciding anything.
