Personally, I’d just be happy winning games. Everything else flows from there.
Really? I don’t spend masses of time here, but I can’t believe there is a single LFC fan that likes us being shit because they can prove some point or other!!??
Why has this thread blown up?
Just looked at the table, damn its bleak.:
- Over 300m of new world class talent.
- Bottom half.
- Zero draws. We not even good enough to turn a loss into a draw.
- Negative goal difference.
- 11 point behind leaders, 1/3 of season gone.
- Thrashed at home by a relegation team, no longer thanks to us.
- etc, etc.
And the general reasoning from players and management. We are suffering from the tragic loss of Diogo.
Careful..we have reason to believe that the @SBYM account is a sock-puppet, in fact operated by a known Manc who goes by the name ‘Mubbs’. Could be disinfo
As you said you aint been here long, you see all the same posters appear when things aren’t going well
Sadly,it is looking very much like Slot is out of ideas, and it seems he is showing that.
If we persist and he has no more ideas, it is looking like a very long season, indeed!
First an obvious point. The league has gone. Arsenal will be too consistent and they will probably win it by a margin. The main domestic prize we are fighting for is CL qualification. At the moment we look miles off that, but a glance at the table shows me we are only 3 points off that, with more than 2/3 of the season to play.
In other words, it is very doable. But something has to change and we have to snap out of this funk, sooner rather than later.
To my mind, what needs to change is Slot needs to go after the future with more zest. It looks to me like he has a hand on the past, and he probably needs to let that go, ruffle a few feathers, and finish the building of the team he has in mind. Play your system, do your thing, and live and die on your own principles.
If Slot wants to play with wingers, sign Semenyo in January and get him in there instead of AFCON bound Salah. If Slot wants to play two strikers, Isak and Ekitike, let’s get it going now that they are fit or in Isak’s case, getting there and no longer injured. If Slot wants Wirtz as the 10, do it! If Slot is sick of seeing a subpar and lackadaisical Konate going through the motions, sign Guehi in January and get some stability back there.
Etc.
Whatever Slot has in mind, go for it! With vim and vigor. Don’t wither before our eyes, holding back from making bold, decisive moves. Go for it!
And if he goes for it and it’s crap, Slot will be finished here. But this betwixt and between nothingness we are seeing is also crap, and too much more of that will also see Slot jettisoned.
So he should go for it. And who knows, we might see an uptick, and the quality that the squad is packed with might, just might, make a bit of a fist of the 2/3 of the season that remains. Top four is very possible. And if we somehow start to click, and put in the sort of performances that brushed Real Madrid aside, anything is possible in this season’s CL.
It’s time to be bold, not timid.
I was also free that time.
Not trying to stop any discussion, this is a forum so of course we should discuss all possibilities
But to me, sacking Slot is an executive decision by the club management but personally I am a supporter, I will support as long Slot is allowed to be here by the club, even to the extreme of us getting relegated.
PS: of course I want to win. Upset when we lose. Feels shit we are going through this.
I would agree but I’m not clear on what that future is.
If we want full backs that are full on attacking wing backs, is that really compatible with our wide players up front? The wide players are always out wide and the full backs always run into their space. Obviously once they are in the same space, if we lose the ball there is a gaping hole that needs covering.
Another point, we are setup to win the ball back high up the pitch and hope that possession eventually results in a goal - which almost never happens.
Last year, we seem to engage teams more mid pitch to get the ball back - guessing that gave us a bit more space to exploit as the opposition was caught in transition. I seem to work for the most part so am not sure why tried to change.
However, it seems a lot on here seem to bathe in us not playing well, this or that player being poor, the coach failing, not spending too much, spending too much not enough players in , too many players in.
They just want to be proved right or are just miserable.
I maybe misunderstood you, but it seemed to me like you meant there are Liverpool fans who want us to be shit. That’s how I read your post. I am certain that’s not true. Maybe it’s not what you meant at all?
I am sure there’s many who only post when there’s something to moan about, but I’m certain they’d rather we were winning!
They only turn up when we lose though.
See Quicksands post
You cannot in it. Spend 450m and be this unbalanced. Slot? Hughes? We believed our own hype. Once in a generation manager gone. What now?
There is one deal where I think you can level that claim.
Liverpool need to find a game model that suits the league they play in!
I think this is the only thing we can take from that. It’s the only thing that’s important.
On that topic, I would say that you often hear contradictory things.
When I hear the media about the pressure being on us to defend the title or at least look better just because the amount money we’ve spent, don’t we already know that it doesn’t necessarily work like that and immediately?
Yes, if you pump money consistently that raises chances of being competitive. But praise when clubs to smart business and then expect only better results as soon as possible when there is a lot of change? How does that train of thought work?
Am I utterly shocked that we’ve not been same or better in the first few months of so much money spent and brought players in? Can’t say I am. Did I expect such a bad start of the season? No, that I didn’t.
Plus, who knows what our pre-season was like.
You can have a good or bad pre-season regardless if you bring 10 or 0 players.
It’s not an exact science.
I very much agree, that based on what we’ve seen so far this season it is unclear what Slot is trying to do.
My take is he is caught between two stools, old and new, and whatever the new thing is that he wants to do, he should go for it! Even if it ruffles some feathers.
All managers will be judged on results, so it would be a great shame if Slot ended up being let go due to a very poor run - in which he wasn’t even fully implementing what he had in mind. So my hope is he is brave and he goes for it.
What does that look like? Lots of variables, but it’s up to Slot to bring it.
The signings he has made lead me to think he had in mind to play Wirtz behind two strikers. If that’s the case, do it! Even if it means phasing out wingers and using the fullbacks to bomb on and provide some overlapping width.
Or if he has in mind a 4231 with Isak up top, Wirtz behind, Ekitike left, and Salah/Semenyo right, go for it! If that means signing another athletic midfielder to beef up the options for the 2, even at the expense of letting someone as good as Macca go, Slot should be brave.
If he has in mind to continue to play with wingers in a 433, we need better out wide than what we have now. Semenyo seems a possibility for January given the release clause.
Whatever it is that Slot has in mind, stick to your principles and go for it, with vigor. He will live and die on results, so he might as well go down fighting hard. And if it turns, he will stay for the duration as we kick in towards what we should be.
