No one can.
Either he gets this season to fix everything and have positivity going into next…
Or someone else gets the remainder of this season to sort stuff.
You have to say there is zero chance of any success, other than arresting the decay.
not from memory, but even if there is precedence, its hard to see the bounce
having said that, Klopp himself had periods of struggles, Guardiola as well, maybe not statistically as bad, but a period of time where nothing they tried seemed to work
If things don’t show any signs of improvement under Slot - and I would give him until Christmas to show us something - then I would, reluctantly, countenance a clear interim role for Gerrard if a new permanent manager could not be found for January.
As an example I think Glasner has a 10M deal and would be a much better bet, if we are going to make a change.
In the meantime I’m backing Slot and hoping we somehow see something spark to life to lift us out of this malaise.
Klopp never had a struggle like this here.
I would genuinely give the job to Sam Allardyce before I gave it to Gerrard.
nah, i wouldnt.
What he said just pre-PSV tonight (and what we saw from them) confirmed it was stupidity to go with Ekitike ahead of Isak against Forest. He said PSV will press us man to man all over the pitch and try to play football.
By the way, I’m not saying we should’ve made a decision who starts up top against PSV before the Forest game, but clearly tonight there was space in forward areas.
Not that it’s the only issue we have, but since it’s a topic these days… decisions like that just add to it.
definately not this magnitude, statistically or using the eye test.
but he did have periods where he struggled.
Sadly at the moment we have a world class relegation form team. I’m not sure Slot can turn this around in fact it’s get worse. 7 goals against in 3 days against poor quality teams. If he can he needs to start today.
Glasner and Gerrard both get a no from me.
Like you said not in this league and not with what players were available.
Why Glasner
It sort of feels dirty to me to talk about other possible managers though. I want Slot and his players to turn it around.
Glasner, Ireola, Alonso if player power wins at Real Madrid… it all sounds interesting, but Slot is the Premier League winning Liverpool manager who is much better than he is currently showing, as is his team. There are myriad reasons why it is not working so far, but obviously this slump can’t go on forever.
I’m hoping they turn it around and I would give it until Christmas to see what happens.
No.
I apologice, but I had to.
I hope he will come good, but I certainly didn’t want the club to buy him. I thought it was way too much cash for a player with an unprofessional attitude that I didn’t like. Particularly after buying Wirz. To use so much cash on just two players did not strike me as wisdom.
But let us cross our fingers, he may play well and find form later on. We have him now, so we have no choice but to hope.
Of course, because we’re loyal, and it’s only a few months since he won the league with us, but you have to face the fact that we’re on our worst run of form for 70 odd years and there’s no sign of it ending. As others have said, there’s never been a trainer who’s turned a run like this around.
None of us are happy about it, but it’s a dire situation that requires action. We can’t just drift into the relegation zone.
Yup once you drift in you have to then start fighting a whole different fight. I’m not sure this lot have that in them.
End of the day we’ve played well in 3 games since we won the title.
Its not just the defence which has gone to shite first 20 games last year 46 goals scored 20 this season 31.
Same.
Isak is a good player but he’s a traditional goalscoring number 9 type forward. Last season, regardless of whether it was Nunez, Diaz or Jota, we barely created any chances for the number 9. The wide players were the goalscorers in the team, the centre forwards just did donkey work.
Seemed to me like a colossal waste of money unless we figured out how to use the centre forward. We haven’t.
Changing the wide players seems to be the next step. But then where does that leave Ekitike?
I don’t think we’ve planned this out well, if I’m honest. All a bit hit and hope this strategy.
I will go back to my biggest gripe about the summer there was no logical reason to sell Diaz it was a colossal error. I know we get people trying to make up issues that weren’t there. He had 2 years left on his deal.
