Arne Slot - Head Coach

I think you still have to back the manager. The second you fail to do that, you need to sack him.

My view is that if Liverpool wants to be a club where player power prevails, Salah will win in this tussle with Slot.

It will be disastrous if he does, as all of a sudden, an underperforming player, toward the end of his career, and not giving value for his £400k+ per week, will be running the show and not the manager.

If and when Slot is ousted, then what? Salah picks the team?

The way Mo is being pushed out of the club is very disrespectful. Two games left before he leaves for AFCON so he might feel like having his back behind the wall and feels the need to say something.

I wasn’t taking the piss or referring anyone, just trying to have some fun with this crappy situation.

It’s clearly a case of someone to blame. Who knows who is at fault but our team has turned into a Dutch league defence in 3 months.
.
You simply can’t ship goals a win a league. Someone will be sacrificed, it’s just the way it goes, professional sport.
.
Does Slot have enough in the bank to save his job, or are players the one to go.
.
We seriously need a CB for Christmas.

Why is it only questioned that Salah is underperforming. Grav levels below last year starts every game, Gakpo not pulling up trees the walking accident Konate starts every game. Wirtz not setting the word alight free pass.

why did you leave out Macca who has been by far the worst “performer” in midfield

and then theres Isak :man_facepalming:

That’s completely over the top, and I really think things wouldn’t have escalated like this if Slot had managed to communicate better within the team. You don’t just bench a player like Mo without explanation and ignore him. It takes a certain amount of tact to deal with such “divas.” Apparently, Slot isn’t capable of it, or he simply didn’t see it coming. Both are very bad, because it could happen again given how he manages the team.

@Livvy is likely right. Arne not using the squad has likely contributed to a toxic atmosphere. When it starts to go downhill and you only use minimum of the squad, that can only add to discontent and creation of factions in the dressing room.
Also, since squad has not been used, subs are rusty. It all reinforces itself.

That having been said, Salah is way, way out of line. But quite very likely, this is partly Slot’s fault regarding management. Salah has a fragile star-ego and we’ve seen that for years. Livvy is spot on, I think.

Imo, imperrative now that both Salah and Slot is surgically removed ASAP! This squad needs healing and asap intervention. Its a full scale crisis now, make no mistake, this is a wooden mansion on fire. Intervention needs to be fast and both Salah and Slot must be gone for this to heal.
The mansion is made of wood and is on fire. Petrol is being thrown.

Slot needs to get sacked now and we need to then rid us of Salah. No ifs or buts.Something must happen now.
My opinion anyway.

After talk of 6 to 7 players performing well below their level, I’m just going to put this here, and for the love of god I can’t take another pile on, so please TAN take it in the spirit it’s given, I’ve been holding it back because the last time I mentioned the J word it got really ugly.

I listed to a podcast the other night - an episode of The Sport’s Agents called ‘Why can’t we let Liverpool Grieve’. It’s well worth listening.

It was done in the wake of Robbo’s emotional interview after the Scotland game and they had a psychologist talking about the what’s happened.

The main takeaways

  • collective grief is a lot different to individual grief. It’s harder and it can’t be managed in the same way. The public nature of it also creates a problem.

  • Grief definitely has an impact on performance and form.

  • Some players may not even be aware that the grief is hitting them physically.

  • The was a mixed response to the idea of the club fronting the Diogo stuff - asking for the song to stop, removing the space in the dressing room etc. even asking fans to be patient with the team as the work through. The players will not want anyone to think they are using it as an excuse.

  • The psychologist was of the view that we haven’t hit peak impact yet. His estimate was that this was likely to be around January, with the first shoots of recovery maybe in the spring.

I have to admit, I am at a loss as to how it can be a coaching or tactical reason that 6 or 7 players - and I mean the likes of Virgil, Konate, Salah, Grav, Macca, Gakpo - could fall off a cliff form wise so badly, but also that their decline seems so overwhelming mental, in how the cope with adversity. It’s got to be part of it.

Please don’t think I’m using this as an excuse, because I really do think some players and the manager need to be questioned whether they are doing the best they can, but I do think it is part of the issue. It has to be.

Anyway, if anyone is interested I’d recommend giving it a listen.

Crystal Palace mush?

I mentioned it in the other thread but I’m surprised people are taking Mo’s comments so literally about getting no explanation and there being no relationship. We’ve already seen elaborations from him (the Friday meeting in Slot’s office) showing these aren’t literally true.

This isn’t to suggest that Slot has handled it right and there have been other questions raised about his man management. But ultimately I think he has been right, even belatedly so, in dropping Mo. And I don’t think there was any situation where Mo was going to take that well

Slot has to go tomorrow and I hope Mo starts vs Inter and Brighton.

Agreed.

But I think this shows that both needs to go now, but for different reasons.
Salah is way out line and unforgivably so in our dire situation, but it also paints a picture of not only systemic sports collapse, but grave morale problems in the squad. And then the general must also be removed. Because not only is his systems not working against adversity, but we have horrid morale and shatter like clay, (this we have known for a while) and now finally, desertion.

That is too many serious failures at once, even though some of them might not be Slot’s fault, these issues are almost guaranteed to work in symbiosis and create further damage (I think).

Indykaila is properly trolling us.

Guess I know who’s next

If I were Slot I would drop Konate from the entire squad. He is poor and it is affecting the team. He will at least be seen as pushing the can for the future.
.
Konate has been beyond poor and has no intention of renewing a contract so let him play reserves. Bite the bullet Arne.

Stevie, temporarily could be interesting, if he could shine anywhere it is likely here,he would have some credit in the bank, certainly with the long suffering fans.

We’ve Inter Milan away on Tues. Kinda changes sacking Slot imminently, if we need to get a result to progress, his end might be deferred, until after CL qualifying is over.
