Arne Slot - Head Coach

Sorry, mis- read your post and was thinking you said half empty

It’s so desperately unfunny at this point, and at the point of trolling. If it continues @The-AllMightyReds is going to be banned.

back to Slot and theres been plenty on here that over the last few months have uttered the famous words;

‘thats on the players, not on Slot’

which i understand given the context of a game, or an individual moment (see VVD today)… but im of the opposite opinion, that Slots only in a job BECAUSE of the quality of the players.

we win games because we have better players, we win games because we can afford a better squad, in moments these players let the team down, but the team isnt winning games beauce of its organisation and collective spirit and mentality, the team is simply only winning games because someone like Wirtz can eventually find someone like Ekitikes feet and one of them will score.

its a simple as that. Slot cant get a free pass on blaming Gravenberch for not running back, whilst claiming the system put the ball in the back of the net in the plus column.

its horrible horrible football to watch.

Since the 1st of Jan 25 to Now we’ve played 43 games and conceded 79 goals. Of those 43 games we have conceded 2 or more goals in 24 of those games 56% of games its an average of 1.8 goals per game.

It’s Hughes which is the greater problem, he’s the architect of this mess.

Watching TAW and one is saying something needs to chane, I am not Slot out but something needs to change, what?

If it’s not the manager what?

What a load of crap, our buying of players isn’t down to one man, Slot and others will have input.

Anyone telling me that he doesn’t have say in where we need to strengthen is talking nonsense and we all know what Arne thought in relation to PSG and low blocks.

It seems he or them never thought other teams would have the temerity to attack us or have a different way of playing.

Jurgan always new that you had to fight and run to have the right to win games in the premier league

Why look at the players he got in for Bournemouth who just beat us

I was being reactionary!.
I liked the old days when it was Gordon and Edwards in charge and our manager Jürgen

Every manager that’s ever coached is on the job because of the quality of their players. So you’re not saying anything new or particularly intelligent.

We don’t win games because we have the quality. We win games because we SHOW the quality. For 90mins!!!

In what way?

Needed fullbacks, bought what most people thought were two of the best options.

Bought a CB to replace Quansah. Not Hughes’ fault he got injured.

Bought one of the best young players on the planet from under the noses of Bayern.

Bought two top strikers.

Guehi was all wrapped up but we got rug pulled by Palace. Aside from the Diaz situation I’m not sure why the finger would be pointed at him.

I think we’re in for a world of hurt, not just when it comes to this season. The squad overhaul from the previous summer seems to be just the first part - even when everyone’s fit, you’d wonder how many want to remain or are worth keeping. Gomez, Robbo, Konate, Endo, Mac Allister, Salah, Chiesa… I don’t see any of them being here past the next summer, which means that we’ll still need a host of new players, who all have to bed in, with a new head coach probably to arrive and make them gel, and that in World Cup summer. This is a mess of club’s own making.

Taking a step back and getting back to the thinking between 2016 and 2018 when it comes to planning player ins and outs is what the club currently needs - aside from the new head coach. I actually thought majority of the football we played against Burnley and Bournemouth was worlds apart from the dross we’ve been served up this season but the defensive side is worthy of a Monty Python’s sketch. I can believe we keep conceding but I can’t believe we’re conceding the same goals over and over again.

Yes before Jurgen got too much say

I’ve been in the Slot out camp since the ManC loss when I found myself kinda indifferent instead of being furious. It all felt expected and even though I wanted Slot to turn it around I haven’t found much excitement watching our games since then. Even when the results got better, the end result seemed inevitable to me - Slot should go for the sake of the fans, the players and thus the club.

However I don’t think Slot is the biggest problem of the club. Certainly not for the future of the club…

We have two injured players out in Isak and Bradley (not counting Leoni as he’s a kid for the future) + Konate out (who’s been terrible and is out of contract at the end of the season anyway).

Then I look at the bench today and I see two players that I think are good enough to make a difference (Ekitike and Jones) + a talanted kid for the future (Rio) + Robbo who will leave pretty soon + a few players that are not Liverpool level.

Then looking at the starting lineup. Salah looks finished and won’t be in the club after next season, if not earlier. Virgil looks worse by the day and won’t be in the club after next season, if not earlier. Gomez is always injured and doesn’t seem like he’ll be here long term. Ali will be gone before the end of next season as well.

And then…
Gakpo looks a bit crap. Maca looks a bit shite at the moment, after looking world class. Frimpong and Kerkez blow hot and cold. Gravy was great for half a season and inconvicing for the rest of his time at the club.

So count me a bit depressed because I look at our squad and I think after next season (if not earlier), we need a lot of new players - players that will push the train, not bench warmers like Endo, Chiesa etc. Fast forward a year and a half and I think most of the current players won’t be at the club. We need to be very, very careful at the business we do and that makes me even more worried, seeing the job Hughes has done so far…

Who would have thought that our best performers last year would be so out of sorts, not Hughes or Arne.

One area I disagreed with, which is great in hindsight, is paying huge wages to ageing stars.

It’s not about whether this is “all Arne’s fault” or not. Regardless of who carries the blame, the only viable option right now is to sack him. Bringing in ten new players simply isn’t realistic.

And honestly, most people would agree that the starting eleven tonight should be good enough to beat Bournemouth. A new voice, some actual structure, and a coherent game plan would probably make a massive difference.

We’re still in the mix for Champions League places, we’ve got the FA Cup ahead of us, and we all know what kind of magic can happen in the Champions League…

Time to pull the plug, FSG.
