It’s nothing to do with evaluating him fairly. You can watch this team playing football and draw your conclusions. I just don’t think it’s worth pulling him up on what he says in the media.

From the post match thread, Arne Slot sort of told the whole world that the side to side crap is his tactics, the inability to make more inroads into the opposition 6 yard box in the first half is down to his poorly coached training.
And seemingly doesn’t understand why his team finds it hard to scores goals in open play with 9 more games to play.
I wonder what is the board waiting for??? To absolutely drop out of top 5??
Today was another abomination of a performance. We’re an utter shambles.
wtf kinda comment is this honestly…
When you’re in leadership everything you say matters. As a football manager you might not have much opportunity to make a positive impact, but every time you speak is an opportunity to lose credibility. And players hear that, have no doubt about that.
I’m not going to lie but I only log into forums once or twice a week normally these days.
When I read through the comments there is one constant and that is you giving off about people criticising Slot. It’s almost ChicagoRed levels of devotion (except it’s consistently defending Slot instead of his consistent criticism of Henderson).
I’ve tried my best to stay being Slot but I just cannot do it anymore.
He looks lost. If he tries to set us up to attack then we are one of the easiest teams to just waltz right through us. It’s either that or he plays not to lose and we end up having virtually zero attacking potential.
I can’t be the only person to see a resemblance to Rodgers. Rodgers started off with a clear, consise style of football that he wanted the team to play - in fact I remember Rodgers coming out and defending Skrtel after he made a bad mistake that was directly responsible for us conceding and he did it by saying that he was trying to get everyone to play proper football and it would take time for all the players to get there.
Then overtime this went from being determined to start a particular style of football to just doing whatever he could tactically and hope the forward players were good enough to create something.
Rodgers had an amazing season where we came so close to winning the league but once he lost Suarez there wasn’t the outlet who could create and score. Slot didn’t have his prize forward sold but the difference between Salah’s performances last year are so bad that he is not the outlet he was last year. Then instead of us looking like a well drilled, well coached team we constantly take to the pitch looking like they’ve never played together before, both then and now.
And while I’ve mentioned/asked about this before when we were looking for a manager weren’t we told Edwards and Hughes wanted one whose style of play was similar to Klopp’s so we wouldn’t find ourselves so dependant on one manager and that this was how we were going forward.
Then we lose to PSG on penalties and now Slot seems to have thrown out the tactics and style that had basically won us the league and from all reports instead seems focused on playing like PSG did against us.
Surely this goes against the remit and reasoning as to why we went for Slot. How on Earth did we go from trying to implement a system that never changed so that we knew what type of person to look for if we need a new manager?
Why change such a literal winning team to instead play the way Slot has all season?
There is no way on Earth to convince me that a different good manager (it wouldn’t even have to be an exceptional manager) could not get so, so much more out of this squad.
Were you saying that when Hodgson was labelling shite performances as great?
Or that if Man United wanted to sign Torres how he (Hodgson) couldn’t deny him his move to such a big club?
Like it or not he is the face of our team and what he says matters.
I’ll stay clean. Arne Slot is clueless!!!
I want our next coach to be someone who has a clear football philosophy and conviction and will refuse to change theirs despite setbacks.
The fact that Slot tried to move away from our football style after the PSG loss proves that he has neither.
From 1990 on, when the 30 year drought began, we were usually good to mediocre for a top 4 team. But we always had the right attitude (well, except for the Hodgson era).
The manager connected with the players who usually gave it all.
This team has PL and CL winners (and WC for Alexis). But they are not motivated and they are not coached. I know that people I respect, like Paul T will continue to place the blame of most of these issues, on the refs and the terrible loss of Diogo and his brother.
We may never know the root cause of the situation we are in. So those who are trusted to make the next big decision may be severely conflicted. But for the sake of those who care (supporters, the non coaching staff, and some players) I hope they announce something soon. Cause if they don’t I might only watch the remaining CL games!
I was very puzzled as well. That system went toe to toe with PSG who eventually won the whole thing and we won the league at a canter.
The pre-season fitness conditioning was a mess as well…
That ship has sailed, unfortunately. If they were going to sack him they would have by now. Still think that was a mistake and in all honesty, a little bumbly and indecisive. The evidence was clear that we’d look shit but get a result here and there which would ease a little of the pressure then rinse and repeat. It’s that kind of mediocre but also slightly positive runs of form that plague top end clubs in that they have spent money, they want it to work and not look like complete kno w- nothings and so get caught in a loop. Kinda like dating the girl who is pretty hot and who you had this great first six months with but now you’ve realized is a bit shallow and moody. You keep it going because the sex is great once every two months and you’re thinking well we were good together once so surely it can work and then you end up chasing lightning in a bottle for 3 years.
We’re exactly in that spot now and sleepwalking to letting him go anyway when a sharp, decisive break would have been healthier for the Club’s season.
That sounds like a very personal story WAH. I hope you managed to find closure and move on.
I’m at the stage where I really don’t want us to start next season under Slot. The football is dire and there hasn’t been any improvement despite him having plenty of time to put things right. I’m rapidly losing any enthusiasm for watching my beloved club and I’m apathetic about our upcoming games.
It’s a very dispiriting situation.
Amorim!
Coaches have to have an Identity but they also need to be adaptable and what we are seeing is that Arne can’t adapt, any future coach has to have a flexibility in how he approaches different teams and styles.
Agreed. Although I don’t think it is inability to adapt I think it is stubbornness.
We have seen how the set pieces have changed dramatically since a change was (finally) made.
Still though, I think the manager change will help. Not because Slot can’t turn it around… but it might take till the middle of next season at this rate of change.
No, because Hodgson hadn’t already proved himself to be a good manager by winning a league title.
It’s not the first time he said that this season either. I’m sick of hearing about set pieces and low blocks, to be honest.
I hoped that our recent set-piece resurgence was a sign of the club coming to grips with current trends, albeit belatedly, but in hope it would be enough to secure CL participation next season. However, one step forward, one step back.
We have to rely on Chelsea and Aston Villa shooting themselves in the foot if we’re to finish in the top 5. Even Brentford and Everton aren’t far behind us…
