Arne Slot - Head Coach

And Ekitike? Also tonight?

A pity because Joe was playing very well and was dominating his side of the pitch and also linking well with Szob and Mo.

He looks fucked. The way he went down was characteristic of an Achilles tear. Even if not though he was clearly in a ton of distress.

Maybe I was watching a different match, but Frimpong did not play well in the 1st half…poor ball passing and control, missed aerial duel. I was not surprised that he was taken off. I was actually surprised that JoGo was removed.

Anyways, back on topic… I cannot wait to see the back of Slot leaving the club. I just do not see him turning the fortune around in Season 3 of this epic drama. (I do not mind eating humble pie though.)

Jeremie was terrible in the first half, so I assumed that was tactical.

I assumed that Gomez came off because there wasn’t anyone else to pull when you’re going all-in on attack. He sat on the bench instead of going to the dressing room, suggesting that it wasn’t an injury.

If that is the case with Joe being subbed, then it is ridiculous, because we were on top and in the ascendency

Gomez was very good in the 20 minutes he was on. Very good in retaining the ball and all the PSG players were bouncing off him like dude was made out of Teflon.

Should have stayed on.

Taking Gomez off was weird. He was doing alright, we were pushing.

Putting him on, then taking him off to put on Rio on feels like we missed a step. Should have just put Rio on at half time.

Otherwise, we just didn’t really look like scoring. Some efforts where we should have done better, but their keeper was never really stressed.

So, we have some work to do over the summer

If it was a tactical decision then that is even more ammunition for Slot to go.

Slot doesn’t have any tactical adjustments other than to throw on attacker after attacker.

I mean, at that point, we were desperate. But it made us wide open on the counter, which gave PSG all the space they needed to finish us off. Perhaps if we kept up our shape and continued to suffocate them, we could have scored.

It’s just symbolic of the poor tactical approach from Slot this year.

Yeah and 2 goals in the CL at home is not a big lift. Certainly not enough to make such a tactical change in pursuit of chasing it with 20 mins left to go. Hell, if we kept on the pressure and didnt get the first until the 85th minute you’d still think there was time for a second and so the imperative had to be sustaining and building on what we were already doing not a throw everything at it approach that has quite honestly fucked us plenty of times this season already.

That is why I don’t understand the decision to remove Joe, especially if it was for tactical reasons as we were well on top!

Honestly I didn’t know if Gomez was an injury or if it was tactical but taking off another defender was hardly surprising, was it?

It’s been something I’ve been wary of ever since the League Cup Final against Newcastle where we were behind and Slot decided to take a 15 year old’s approach to a game of Football Manager when he strips the defence and midfield, sticks on as many attackers as possible and then hopes for the best.

Tonight once he did that we knew one of us was definitely going to score. If we had have been given that penalty then maybe it could have been seen as a stroke of genius. As it is they were able to score from their first attack in ages and that was the game.

It seems strange to feel so nonchalant about a 2-0 home defeat but given how poor we’ve been all season this was actually one of our better performances.

I still think that the away leg last week was almost unforgivable. We’ve taken the field in European games with much worse teams than what we had last week yet I can’t remember us going out with an attitude that we had already lost and our only job was to keep them from scoring too many. It was cowardly and embarrassing and in the end left us with too much to do against a team with the quality of PSG.

It also speaks volumes that they only beat us on penalties last year yet after almost half a billion spent we are now levels below them in basically every metric I can think of.

I had no problem with the 5 3 2 setup away.

However, I had major issues with how we/Arne implemented it, complete tactical naivety with our 3 CB’s being all over the place and being dragged out of position, which was tactical, rather than keeping a compact shape.

I thought Frimpong was tactical as he had an awful first half. Hoping Gomez is ok and it was a go for broke.

Top 3/4/5 is the aim now but he shouldn’t buy him another season. The first half was typical of how we played for large parts of the season and it should have been the half in which we went at them.

Fine margins may have changed it. But we wouldn’t have deserved it.

It does look bright if he leaves…

I hope this is him trying to convince others to save his job. As it’s coming across a bit like Rodgers.

We didn’t compete in the first leg, if we had then a 0-0 or 1-0 goal deficit may have been easier to overcome.

Yeah, we “competed” with them and lost 4-0 after not even trying to score in the first leg.

How low the standards have become.
