Overall, going out to PSG doesn’t change anything about the Slot decision. I think it will be a mutually consented sort of thing, and if so, hopefully Slot isn’t slated too much. He won us the Premier League and that cannot be taken away.
But this season has been so poor that almost all fans expect to see him moved on, and it feels like we need a reset under a new man, players and fans alike.
I could be too optimistic, but I think we have the bulk of a smashing side. With some key additions, and crucially with a breath of fresh air that a new leader would bring, I expect we will be ready to challenge for the biggest prizes again.
Interesting to see Iraola announcing he is leaving Bournemouth. I suspect a job like Liverpool is too soon for him, but there’s another fella who won a big title and went the whole season unbeaten. He was a Rolls Royce of a midfielder, and he knows the club and the city very well. He has a vision for the game, is a hands on coach, and has a thing for keeping standards high.
I don’t know what makes me more sick, watching this team or reading his bullshit responses.
We signed the most sought after player available and we have just wasted a year of his contract on this shit. We wasted a year of VVD Liverpool career, we wasted the last year of last years PL goal and assist winner, who wont even make top 10 in either of those stats, and now I have to read about signing more players when he cant even get this side to play better than a mid table team.
There’s nothing wrong with taking an “off” season to rebuild, especially considering the summer 2025 we had with the loss of one of our own and his young bro.
But to be running the club in a “formal” way, where things are so robotic and emotionless? No thank you. I’ll take a lunatic but fanatic dad coach who will run this like a small town team that bonds together.
A team that leaves everything on the pitch, led by a coach and formal and informal player-captains who give everything and don’t sweet-talk how great the opposition is.
Get him out of here. Oh, and while at it, get some players who will die for our club.
Edit: and I’m done thanking him for #20, as considering the progressively bad free fall we’ve been in, I now believe it was the well oiled Klopp machine, with mainly Klopp players, that won us the league, while both Citeh and Arsenal took a year off.
And it is comments like that one which made me stop listening to him a long time ago , and confirm that he’s either deluded or an idiot. Either way , he’s not fit to be manager of Liverpool Football Club.
There have been several achilles injuries lately among high profile basketball players. Almost all of them returned without visible side effects, albeit after an absence of several months, or even a year.
It’s not as bad as it used to be, but it’s still a devastating injury.
The fact he set up this team to be so ineffective in the 1st leg was bad enough but to drop Salah and Rio after a good performance and goals at the weekend for Ekitike (who is out of form) and Isak who has played for 20 mins in 4 months is a sacking offence in itself.
That decision was utterly baffling to me. Isak touched the ball 5 times. He looked like he has since he got here - unfit and a square peg in a round hole. He doesn’t fit the way we play especially after 4 months out.
This whole squad is an unbalanced mess and despite spending £400m in summer needs another overhaul.
Seasons been utterly shit from start to (the near) finish.
His argument for starting Isak (something I didn’t agree with initially although I did want Salah on the bench) was that he didn’t want to risk going into potentially extra time with him, if he came on in the second half.
On Gomez, he said he wanted to make a change and then Joe told him if he continues sprinting, he feels something might happen, so because it was our 4th sub, he opted to take him off.
With the players who started, we didn’t lay a glove on PSG. After Fulham, Mo and Rio should have started last night. Isak wasn’t or isn’t fit, thats obvious. We looked more threatening when Mo came on.
Frimpong was poor, and Joe Gomez was playing well until another puzzlling decision. I doubt very much he said anything about sprinting. Thats cover speak for a crass decision.
Moving Szoboszlai from midfield was a disaster, it opened up the middle for PSG. Dom was everywhere, tracking and putting tackles in whilst in midfield.
We have dropped so many stupid points this season, so many matches when we end up unbalanced and playing like a wild schoolboy team. Slot wants “more controlled football” and ends up with a mess.
I really doubt we will beat Everton, or Utd. Thats what this season has done to me, I am usually way more hopeful.
