Aurelien Tchouameni (DM/CM) AS Monaco

This is list I’m most looking forward to.

For me, I’ll be curious to see where Khephren Thuram ranks on that list when it’s compiled. Moreover, how to incorporate the data parameters, given his number of starts for Nice.

We should close the thread now as it it is confirmed RM have agreed to pay the€80M for him. We should now go for Nkunku who is a lot quicker

We need a DM. Fabinho as fit as he is cant be expected to play 60 to 70 games a season. Thiago and Henderson can play in the #6 but they arent natural DM.

Klopp might give games to academy kids if theres no value in the market though.

To be fair I thought it was Hendo’s best position. I don’t think we lost much when he went in there. My only worry in the final two weeks was would he play too many minutes

I like Henderson more when he links up with TAA and Salah in attack as a #8.

It’s not like Thiago / Henderson and even Keita at a pinch can’t put in a defensive shift. They can and are disciplined enough in our formation to get over the line even. But Fabinho needs a understudy.

Henderson is perfectly good as a 6, probably better than he is as an 8. And as he gets older that will only get more obvious

Hendo at #6 was probably best in 16/17 (unfortunately got injured), later some limitations became obvious, hence why we went for Fabinho in 2018. Since then and talking about Hendo in general at Liverpool, the best he’s played was as a #8, it’s his natural habitat, he’s better when he can move around. But as a backup option in the #6 role for at least one more season, yeah, totally fine.

I think one of the most important things for a CM is to be able to see where battles are being lost and adjust accordingly. I think this is a strength of Hendo, and one he is a less able to do in the more constrained role of the DM. I think the issues people point to that he gets exposed when playing as the DM is more to do with whomever is playing in front of him not plugging those gaps as well as he does as it is due to his limitations as the DM.

Maybe if we played a double pivot with Henderson / Fabinho as dual #6’s , I can see it working.

It’s similar to what Tuchel said on Kante when he took over from Lampard. Lampard tried to convert Kante into more of a fixed #6. Tuchel came in and immediately said that Kante is best when he’s not fixed, but can move around, that’s his biggest strength. Of course, there’s a difference when he plays more reserved alongside Pogba in a double pivot for France.

19/20 was the best of Henderson as the 6. Fabinho got injured, everyone panicked, we won 14/15 with 1 draw iirc and Klopp chose Henderson over Fab for the Atletico home tie.
