Depends on if we actually do being another winger. Journos have been adamant that Gakpos exit is reliant on two signings out wide.
So far: given up on Mbaye as PSG want stupid money. Tried Minteh, given up as Brighton want stupid money. Asked about Sarr, given up as Palace said they couldn’t even be bothered to make up a stupid amount to scare us off as there’s no chance.
Unless theres a secret fourth wide target/more wiggle room than reported on a previous target I think Gakpo stays.
Tbh having Gakpo and Barcola as our first choice wingers would be a very good pairing. I wouldnt be upset about it.
Like, single figure games in each of the last two seasons, it would be wild imho to spend this amount of money on a player only to play him out of his favoured position.
Not saying he won’t ever pop up there for us, maybe even switching within games for a bit, but doing so just to accommodate Gakpo… I can’t see it.
I wasn’t saying there’s no chance, just that personally I find it hard to see where the other winger comes from.
Noise from the club is we’ve fully given up on the three other targets we’ve asked about and the only other tenuous link I’ve seen is with Endrick but i dont think Madrid will sell him for a price we’ll see as reasonable either.
Suggests to me two possibilities: wait a year for another winger and keep Gakpo, or one of the previous targets has more wiggle room on their fee than previously reported but the selling clubs involved (psg, Brighton, palace) all have a history of making sure they get good money.
Yeah, I don’t see us going this big to play Barcola on the right because he did a job there a few times (he is someone who I believe can play across the front if the team needs it). We are giving him his best side. Of course, the rest is up to him/the players, as usual. To merit/win/keep their spots.
Because we already have enough question marks as it is, who will usually start and where.
