Breaking News Thread

I find it fascinating how no one has pointed out that two prominent politicians of Indian descent, one from a Hindu background, and another from a Christian background, feel free to make such thinly-veiled attacks on Muslims/people from a Pakistani background…

Presumably because they believe their ethnicity is enough to shield them from accusations of racism/sectarianism. Another political calculation which only confirms what utter cunts they are.

There is an assumption that someone who is an ethnic minority cannot be racist. Racism is a product of prejudice and power.

As one whose partner is of Indian extraction, I have to agree that, in my experience, casual prejudice against Muslims is not hidden among Hindus.
There might be another thread for this though.

I agree that there is a lot of prejudice shown by Indians towards muslims (more so if they are from Pakistan).

And vice versa by Pakistanis against Indians

Not the right thread but yeah it is what it is.

Not directly related to happenings in the UK.

The writer is a Pakistani-Canadian by the way.

I am a bit wary of this as every people or group of people live in communities. The nonPakistani group recently arrested was probably facilitated by the lack of action in the broader community.

You could be right. The lack of previous action only emboldens the others to attempt to do the same.

The pinpointing to Pakistani’s as such is very unfair in all this. But If there’s a problem (in society in general) , It is imperative that it be fixed and corrective actions/ punishments be given.

What the actual fuck? Seems like whole.families invoked - are these cases involving foster children? Surely more.vetting.and checking needs to be done - the idea that (both) parents and their children would all be abusing these kids is absolutely sickening and bizarre.

Seemingly , pictures of Israeli soldiers beating people on their prayer mats inside the Al-Aqsa mosque wasn’t enough of a provocation for the new government. So they went and did it again for good measure , and got the response they were looking for. This time in the form of retaliatory rocket coming not from Gaza but from Lebanon.
Israeli forces are already shelling towns in southern Lebanon according to Hezbollah.

christ…friend of mine was in Beirut on Friday night. just missed all the fun

At what point is Israel labelled a failed state? Not sure that was the outcome Bibi and his supporters would have originally thought they were working toward.

I think , strictly speaking , ‘failed state’ applies to countries who can no longer raise enough revenue to support the institutions of state. But Netanyahu can already claim to have removed Israel from the list of countries claiming to be truly democratic when he introduced the Jewish State law in 2018. What we are witnessing now however is of an entirely different order ; a judicial coup d’état by religious extremists who not only would deny the Palestinians their own state but also their right to exist anywhere in the land ‘given’ to them under Balfour.

Rogue State is probably a more accurate description of today’s Israel , and it’s only going to get worse.

I know everyone says @rab is a nice bloke but I always had my suspicions…

so here’s the real question…what kind of explosion burns 18,000 cows? what do they have on site that’s flammable? ammonium nitrate?

https://toronto.citynews.ca/2023/04/13/dairy-farm-explosion-injures-1-person-kills-18000-cattle/

isn’t everything bigger there?

last I checked, cows were not flammable. 18000 cows, well how the fuck do you blow up 1,000,000kg of cattle? that just doesn’t make any sense.

from what could be on site at a dairy farm that’d be that flammable? Oklahoma city bombing they estimated at 2000kg of ammonium nitrate that took out a building and 200+ people…but we’re talking about a massive amount of cattle. enough to fill a football pitch.

maybe some propane tanks for heating and operating equipment and some fuel tanks for machinery were too close by?

Oil and gas fields would be my guess with penned cattle in and around.
