Being right on isms, climate change or politics is far more important and very time consuming
Honestly, what is there to actually say? Is there sense to be made of it?
Or it might have more to do with the fact that until he was charged there was next to no information coming out about what happened and people thought it wise not to speculate.
There’s not that much extra information:
BBC News - Nottingham attacks: Valdo Calocane charged with three counts of murder
Appears to be someone brought up in Wales and now of no fixed address. Nothing much else mentioned but the homelessness and random nature of the crime is probably going to point to a history of mental health problems.
I’m guessing that they will have to withhold information that is relevant to the trial.
Yep , and … Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Kate Meynell said: “Posting prejudicial information online about an active case could amount to contempt of court and, in the most serious cases, have the potential to cause the collapse of a trial.”
There is obviously a lot of shock and outrage with most people regarding this tragedy… but sadly, tagged on for the ride with these emotions, is the inevitable feeling, of knowing that fuck all bad will happen to this monster, that carried out these attacks…
He will probably live a better standard of life in prison, than out of prison. He will be protected in there 99% of his ‘cushy’ time…
Doesn’t really seem like the punishment fits the crime anymore…
Not sure what, or if, there is an answer or better deterrent to vile creatures like this…
For the most egregious crimes , ones normally which arouse national outrage , then a whole life tariff can be handed down ,meaning they will never be released from prison. That’s the ultimate sentence in this country and we just have to accept that some people , whether it’s just through pure recklessness or mental illness , are immune to any kind of deterrent.
Fair enough.
We certainly dont want to start a trend of speculating about things on these forums
Jeez that sounds pretty horrific for those poor souls
The ones on the titanic or the ghouls looking at their grave? OK, bit harsh granted. When it goes wrong 3000m down it’s going to be beyond unpleasant.
This is sort of like the Everest expeditions where things went pear-shaped. People need to understand there is an enormous assumed risk, it is an inherently dangerous environment where a simple mistake can have immediate and extreme consequences. It is not a Disney ride.
It’s more like a ride at Fun Spot, one of Orlando’s non disney parks that operates under the same lack of state regulations as the bigger parks that do self-regulate.
Again. For some cases , I’ll be in favour of the death penalty. This is assuming that they have been found guilty beyond any doubt and they’ve had their day in court etc.
There’s nothing to be gained by keeping them in prison at the expense of the tax payers. Some people in the rarest of the rare , do deserve the most extreme punishment.
Britain effectively has a defacto death sentence. The very worst cases are given whole life terms which means that they are sent to prison to die without possibility of parole.
The advantage of this over actively killing the prisoners is that it allows for miscarriages of justice to be rectified. There have been many cases of this, often regarding the most high profile cases.
Yes it’s pretty horrific. But when a bunch of space tourist billionaires head up to space and things go wrong, well they knew the risks. Just like this. No-one deserves to die, but it’s difficult to have a lot of sympathy for these billionaires, especially knowing the time and cost efforts that are going into rescuing them. Maybe don’t get bolted into a sub controlled with an xbox360 controller.
I saw that piece the CEO did for the BBC and was gobsmacked watching him explain how they used a game console joystick to operate the thing. I don’t know much about tech , but I had an inkling that wasn’t such a great idea.
Driver: “yeah…bluetooth connectivity has dropped out again…”
Billionaire in the back: “What?!”
I was amazed to hear they’re bolted in so if they managed to surface, they can’t get out without assistance. 5 lifejackets, a radio and flares would be bloody useful. Granted they need to not be 3km down.
I noticed that the UK inflation rate is staying stubbornly high:
I’m just curious as to what is pushing this up. In Germany, I’ve noticed food prices coming down, particularly for keynote items such as milk, sunflower oil, Irish butter and so on.
Is this being reflected in the UK? Is the UK inflation mainly down to mortgage and rents going up?
Nope- if you listen to the news this morning, it’s all down to those pesky workers asking for pay rises.
