About an hour ago, at 03:43 GMT to be exact, there was a large earthquake in Japan. It’s been measured at 7.1 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was off the coast of Miyazaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu which is at the southern end of Japan.
There is a tsunami warning but at the most it’s expected to be 1 metre, more like 0.5. The tsunami hasn’t occurred yet, so it might not happen. No word on casualties yet.

Miyazaki is a lovely place. I hope it won’t be anything too serious.

One of my daughters was at university there until earlier this year. I’m sure she’s worried about some her friends right now.

I will be getting stuffed shortly. It’s dinnertime. The world can breathe easy; my daughter’s friends are all OK. Apparently there isn’t much damage even though it was a pretty powerful quake.

Mohammed Yunus has been charged with forming a government in Bangladesh. That’s an interesting development. I have a lot of respect for this guy.

This just in. I mean like seconds ago. Earthquake in the Tokyo area. Not all that big, only 5.3, but seismologists have been proved right in predicting another quake along the Nankai Trough within a week of the one yesterday. Apparently there have been numerous quakes along the Pacific coast since the one in Miyazaki.

They think they live in America where Free Speech is absolute. In many countries in Europe, it is not, if it is classified as incitement to violence.
