I remember Ash Wednesday back in Oz. I was miles from it walking home from school but the air was still full of smoke.

My uncle spent days fighting it as a volunteer fire fighter.

People throw the word hero around…CFA types deserve it more than most.

As an aside…you were living in Oz…WTF?

Good surfing down there Noot?

Pizzagate was the subject of my first internet argument with a conspiracy nutter. He sent me a shit tonne of pics of stuff ‘proving’ the existence of the paedophile ring.

What a time that was!!

Yeah but i was a little kiddy so never really got the chance to get into it back then. Too much football and cricket to be playing though.

It was, not as glamourous as Brisbane or as good access to “stuff” as Victoria but I knew no better.

Brisbane isn’t glamorous. It’s slightly less boring than Adelaide.

Modern city in a tropical climate thingy was my thinking.

Having lived in Sydney and Adelaide, I’m prefer Raelaide. Easy pace of life, beautiful green hills, old stone mansions in lush grounds for the price of a small eastern subs Sydnet house, beach, wineries and good food and restaurants all within easy reach. Add a charming city centre and parklands perfect for festivals and decent Mediterranean climate (personally would prefer a few less 35 degree days). Main thing it’s missing is access to the snow fields but still on balance a great place to live

This. Big issue.

Also a uk issue.

Agreed but unless you live in Canberra, they are still inconvenient from any Aussie city. The quality of snow in Aus is so patchy that it’s almost as convenient and similar cost to fly to NZ in winter or Japan or Canada in summer.

That artivle is from 2022, and he didn’t get elected back in after.

I visited back in 2001 and while in Melbourne we had a days skiing at Mount Buller. It was okish.

Not sure how it is now.

That’s not entirely true.

You can reach Mt Buller from Melbourne in 3 hours.

Sadly, especially after covid is when I actually realized how much the average person is susceptible to conspiracy lunacy. It isn’t just nuts that believe the nonsense. You might run into a completely pleasant, seemingly normal individual, then they hit you with flat-earth-tier horse shit.

I think the ultimate conclusion of that is the point when you realise that it isn’t just the average person, we can each be radicalised like that, no matter how immune we might think we are. It’s hubristic (and ultimately makes us more vulnerable to it) to think otherwise.
