You don’t stab that many people if mugging is the goal.
But its peculiar, since 1 person going amok, that can happen. But 2, then its likely some sort of motive.
Two of the victims are still fighting for their lives apparently.
One guy has been released - no further charges. One remains in custody
Just read that.
In a funny way, I feel better it was one fucking arsehole rather than two working together, for the reasons @Magnus outlined above.
I’m just curious as to how they were arrested in the first place. Mistaken identity?
It could be, one was acting in self defence of the principal attacker who remains detained. So they would arrest the other person just to ensure his response was proportionate. Is one explanation, but we would need more detail to know for sure.
I was thinking more that they couldn’t determine which of two black men was the perpetrator. It would be absolutely dreadful for the innocent man.
Certainly makes more sense now we know it’s just one guy. Another paranoid schizophrenic that’s slipped through the safety net most likely.
Yes it could be that too. But then a wrongful arrest claim!
Dreadful for the 11 people who were stabbed and the other passengers on the train.
Quick-thinking LNER train driver whose actions saved lives identified as Iraq war veteran
Story by Aymon Bertah
An Iraq war and Royal Navy veteran has been identified as the driver whose quick-thinking saved the lives of passengers on the train he was driving.
Peterborough man, Andrew Johnson, diverted the train heading to London to Huntingdon station within minutes of being told about the mass stabbing, The Telegraph reported.
Mr Johnson’s actions allowed a quick response from emergency services.
The man is understood to have finished his career as a Chief Petty Officer and worked as a weapons engineer.
He had served in the Royal Navy for 17 years and deployed to Iraq in 2003 during the second Gulf War.
Mr Johnson is understood to have been working as a train driver since 2018.
The veteran is believed to have served aboard a ship during the Iraq War.
He was on a team tasked with removing mines in the Tigris river.

Mr Johnson still supports former servicemen and fundraises for the Royal British Legion, even in the days before the attack on Saturday.
The LNER service left from Doncaster at 6.25pm and was on its way to King’s Cross, having left Peterborough station at 7.30pm when the knife attack started.
Witnesses recounted people fleeing as they ran out of the train as others retreated to the toilets.
One passenger said train seats were covered in blood which felt “like something from a film”.
Sorry but we need to bring back the death penalty for barbaric atrocities like this. Time this government took a stand and reintroduced all the core values that made this one great, strong, united country, great, strong and united.
Life no longer becomes worth living when people fear leaving their homes, children should be able to go to a dance studio and make it back home safely the same day, a dog walker should be able to walk his dog peacefully and people should be able to travel by whatever means of transport without being victimised or traumatised by low life scum of the earths.

British history is full of bloodshed. We exported it around the world. The only difference now is the opportunity for infamy and the influence of media.
Where’s this from ?
All I can find are denials that it was terrorist related ; 'The attack was first suspected as a potential terrorist attack. British Counter Terrorism Policing units were involved in initial investigations. Police now however say that further investigations have ruled out terrorism as a motive behind the incident. ’
Need you even ask? Doubtlessly the cancer that is “social media”.
What makes you think that the death penalty will stop atrocities like this from happening?
Where is the evidence that having the death penalty reduces the murder rate? Doesn’t seem to have had much effect in the US.
To my mind these calls for the reintroduction of the death penalty are just cries for vengeance and bringing it back wouldn’t solve any problems.
The police released the details it did because of misinformation deliberately being spread on social media.
Tax revenue is up since Brexit. I don’t know how much of that is because of increases to tax rates though. However, it is believed that the UK is missing out on around £40bn a year in taxes from what it would have been receiving had we stayed in the EU (as the economy is estimated to have grown by around £120bn had we stayed in).
