Local news updates:
FFS. Just read about it. Chanukah By The Sea. It definitely sounds like it was specifically targeted.
The worry now is that there will be copycats.
This is absolutely horrific!
Plenty of sirens outside. Bondi’s about 15 mins drive from here.
thoughts are with all affected.
absolutely mad footage about the civilian stripping the gun off that shooter…what a hero…
Have heard a couple of reports that after being detained, one of the gunmen was kicked a number of times by several members of the public.
I’m sure the police took a very dim view of that ![]()
This was on the yahoo comments section. It some captured the zeitgeist for me…
To avoid any misinterpretation - this is in response to the US incident

Terrorist was already stone dead ![]()
Person of interest taken into custody in Rhode Island, in re the shootings at Brown University.
The post above from the US guy saying keyboard warriors will make the shooter out to be from the political party they don’t like, is quite disingenuous, imo. Most all of the perpetrators in mass killings, recent, or otherwise here, have been shown to align with a far right ideology. The fact that we have so many of these horrid events, and continue to do absolutely nothing about guns is the true tragedy/story.
Why are you posting shit from a far-right shithead?
Shocking news.
RIP to all the victims.
It’s a well planned attack, likely ISIS or Al Qaida associated and likely inspired by the Gaza campaign and talk around that, given they targeted specifically a Jewish gathering and sought to kill and terrorise only Jews.
11 dead (12 if including the shooter) so far, let us hope it doesn’t get even worse.
I really hope that the hero depicted on video is getting properly rewarded with medals and more. Unlike the shitty knighthoods the UK doles out for nothing but being famous , this man did something actually incredibly heroic and almost payed with his life. Worthy of the highest civilian honours as well as substantial monitary compensation.

This is a pretty good video of the above.
What a hero, should have shot the fucker grrrrrrrrr
Important thing is that he saved a lot of lives. I understand the sentiment though.
But It’s not his job to kill and the only way he could have done so without it being murder, is if he shot him when he took his weapons. But that is killer instinct, something most humans thankfully don’t have.
If he shot him later, as the terrorist was retreating unarmed, it would not work out well for him legally.
I suppose what he should have done, had he been a trained fighter, is actually to scream loudly at him “get down on the ground, get down on the ground! In X position! Spread your legs!” etc. And then shoot him in the legs if he did not comply.
But why should he be a trained soldier and act like that? Most of us would not, I think. So let’s focus on him being a hero instead
Attackers got shot in the end.
netanyahu has come out blaming the Australian Politics for this…
what a pathetic human being.
this is imported hatred, born from whats happened in his backyard. this is not something that was spawned in this country, no one was emboldend to do this simply because Australia recognised the palestinian state. ths is a crime perpetrated because of what is happening on foreign soil, and now has made its way into our everyday lives.
how dare he lecture the Australian government on how to deal with this, maybe if you all sought peace over there we wouldn’t have our iconic beach over here looking like a war zone this morning.
my thoughts and prayers are with anyone affected by this tragedy and especially the greater Jewish community. We must remain strong, prosecute the terrorists that perpetrated this crime.
this is not a time for political point scoring.
plenty of people of all denominations came together to assist yesterday.
The 2 culprits were father and son. The father was the one killed. He was also a licensed firearm owner.
Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon says the two gunmen were a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son
