Bundesliga / German NT

Fairly difficult and disappointing season for him, so not surprising that the integration challenges are not going well either.

Any possible reservation FSG would have about Xabi’s relative inexperience would be out the window were he to pull off a managerial feat that at least compares to Klopp delivering a PL title, or the Red Sox finally winning in 2004. Bayer has a 120 year history and has never won the league, that has to turn some heads.

Think at some point in 2025 we‘ll have

Klopp as national coach

Flick at Bayern
Tuchel at Leipzig
Nagelsmann at Dortmund

And Mbappe at Liverpool.

Nagelsmann at Dortmund would be really intriguing. He may/may not enhance his reputation with the German National Team this summer, but moving to Dortmund would afford him the time to rebuild his reputation. He could be with the German NT for another year (until Klopp’s ready), move to Dortmund, stay there for 5 years, and only be 42 years old!

His contract with the NT expires after the tournament in the summer. Depending on a good result he might stay longer but can not see it. He is ‘too young’ to be a national coach.

I was just thinking of the period between now and the summer of 2025 where the NT role would be available if they waited for Klopp. Wouldn’t they just extend Nagelsmann anyway until Klopp was back on the market?

Expecting Nagelsmann to leave NT after the EURO and Klopp to take over from new year on.

Not sure what the German FA will do in the 6 months between that.

It’s a strong indication of how much the stream of new talent has dried up. It rather reminds me of Lauter Matthäus’s inability to call it a day.

Kroos is still a better midfielder than Goretzka and especially Kimmich.

Nagelsmann should have a look at Andrich (Leverkusen), Angelo Stiller (Stuttgart) and Brentford Janelt.

Xhaka catching the keeper out, Leverkusen will set a new unbeaten record in the Bundesliga if they avoid defeat tonight.

SVDB starting for Mainz, looks a unit to when I last saw him.

Well well well. 1-1

Former Leverkusen player with a tremendous header. Could be off. Stands.

Been impressed with Mainz here, really trying to squeeze up and they carry a threat on the counter/from set pieces.

Sepp’s won all his headers so far.

BO4 are a lot of fun to watch… very very fast transitions

Wow. 136 shots but only 6 on goal, according to ESPN. Leverkusen has to work on their conversion rate!

Our boy, Sepp van den Berg, is playing extremely well.
