Caoimhin KELLEHER: 2020/21

Confidence in my opinion is very crucial for a keeper’s developement and performances. That can happen only in matches and not in training. Also the chemistry with the back four that can instill a trust in that said keeper happens in actual games, but not in training.

Yep ARD. Keep Queeve and if Allison doesn’t get injured, rest him for the odd game here and there. Can always reassess at the end of 21-22 season.

But that confidence and chemistry is already there from the looks of it. It’s been developed now it just needs maintaining. Completely different proposition.

Oh I was definitely not advocating a loan for him now or this season. Maybe even not next season, but when it comes to when he is 24 or 25 and he is still not getting much games, then we have to consider whether we are stunting his development by keeping him on the bench. I truly believe, when fit, Klopp will choose Alisson week in week out, at least in the PL, that is what I think. So I think in a season or two, there is a decision to be made, provided of course Kelleher continue to impress when he gets to play.

If (and it is still an if) Kelleher is reliable enough we can choose to use him not just when needed. He can, of course, play the domestic cups buts there is no reason not to use him in PL and CL too if he’s good enough for consideration on merit. It’s rare but not unheard of for a second choice keeper to not be that far off the first choice. We can give Kelleher may be even over 20 games depending on competitions we are involved in and that’s without Alisson being injured and playing 40 games too. With the way Alisson has been with injuries recently maybe it’s not the best idea he plays 2 games a week every week. 3 some seasons. We can easily look at a run of maybe 7 games and say; “right these 3 PL games and this CL game are going to be difficult and important. This cup game, the PL game against a lesser side 2 days before the CL game and this CL game against a lesser side, we can give them to Kelleher so Alisson is better prepared for the others.”!

Not going get that elsewhere mind is he?

Can get perhaps. My view was more from the training vs first team experience difference.

No I meant he isn’t going play with our first team elsewhere seems odd we are discussing shipping out even more players when we are the bare bones

I think we do have to get used to the idea that the back up roles, especially where there isn’t likely to be much rotation, are going to have a degree of churn.

Someone like Tsimikas, for example, is probably going to want to get off after a couple of years. I can see Kelleher being happy with a couple of years as the recognised number 1, but will need to find regular starts after that.

The challenge for the club is to plan for that. Pitaluga might be ready by the time Kelleher needs a move.

Any news why he was missing last night? I know he had a slight injury not long ago, maybe it was a reaction to that.

So, any ideas regarding the type of injury he has? It’s rather unnerving to read this unspecified word in all the reports, though the same reports put down his return in a week.

Yeah he was on the bench against RBL so I thought it had cleared.

Any idea, better still, information, about the type of injury or sickness the lad is suffering? It’s been several weeks.

I thought I heard wrist. Been suffering from it since his surgery. I’m probably dreaming I seen that mentioned though
