Caoimhin KELLEHER: 2024/25

Tô be fair so should Tsimikas.

Not entirely the fault of Kelleher considering the reaction of everyone.

Alisson would have saved that though. But it was a handball anyway. So moot

Really great problem for the club as a whole to have (two outstanding goalkeepers on the books at the same time) potentially quite frustrating one for Caoimhin.

Putting myself in his shoes, being 25 and only having played 72 games my whole career wouldn’t exactly be the trajectory I’d want to be on. Alisson is relatively injury prone for a keeper, but for Kelleher to stay and sign a new contract it would have to mean Alisson is leaving for whatever reason. I haven’t heard of that happening at all, thank fuck.

It would be a bittersweet goodbye to a homegrown GK, would love for this guy to stay but all the rumblings in the press make it pretty clear he wants to shake things up for himself. He just came through at the wrong time when we have the worlds best GK ahead of him.

He could hold his head up high though knowing that he performed basically in every game he played for us.

Now, don’t go to a cunty club is all I request :joy:

All this really just means he signs a contract extension and continues effectively being our No. 1.5…

Except how do you think that we can put that to him and have him be happy with it?

“Look, we know that you want to play week in and week out. Here’s what can offer you 4 more years of warming the bench during PL and CL unless Ali is injured, and a few FA and League cup games, but that’s it. Sign on the dotted line”

Erm…don’t we have yet another quality keeper arriving July '25?

2 great saves from their corners and a couple of great catches at the end to help keeping us calm. Far better than the ones against Bayer, which due to his great positioning were routine

Isn’t good positioning an essential part of a goalkeeper’s job?

He’s a very good keeper. Both saves were cat like reflexes.

Gonna be interesting to see what happens to him in the summer, it’s a bit of a conundrum when you factor in we’ve just paid 30m for someone that I can only imagine we see being our future #1.

Unless a big sizeable offer comes in for him, Mamada may need to go on loan again.

Send him on loan to the Emptihad, where he can take over from Ederson as their number one and make “mistakes” every week.

I don’t really watch other PL teams unless they’re playing us. Which teams would Kelleher be likely to regularly start for?

Obviously, he’s better than that bloke at Everton, but we don’t want him going there.

Newcastle is a good fit. Pope is terrible with his feet, but he’s arguably better than all of Chelsea’s goalkeepers. However, I doubt we would sell him to them.

Any team apart from Arsenal. Him and Raya are on par. I’d say Kelleher makes saves look easier whereas Raya due to his relatively poorer positioning relies on acrobatics more.

Taking this season alone into perspective. Understand Onana shouldn’t be there arguably. Here’s the comparision between Kelleher / Raya / Onana / Alisson / Ederson & Martinez. Kelleher stats up pretty well against them all. Ederson covers much more of a distance when playing as a sweeper keeper but both Kelleher and Alisson are good enough in that role.

And one thing to be mentioned is that Kelleher is 25 and all the other lot are 30.

I mean, we did do that once already, haven’t we?

Well he can join the queue.

I’d say he is behind Ali, Edison and Martinez.

On par with Raya, Pope, Ramsdale who I do think is a better keeper than gets credit for and Kepa.

The rest, he would be No.1 before too long.

Saw Ali watching the game monitor just after that fantastic double corners save.

Ali like “bugger i may have to play in the reserves”
