Why did we agree to pay them £1m compensation then?
We paid to shut them up and make it go away, as it still was possiblu illegal under UK law under Computer Misuse act.
Yeah it still wasn’t legal but hacking conjures up an image of the dude in Die Hard unlocking the vault. This was just using login details that we shouldn’t have had.
Looks like there is a real possibility that the promotion final won’t be played as scheduled. What a mess..
It can’t go to CAS.
At least the EFL process is definitive then - which makes it more able to be resolved in a quick manner.
Southhampton kicked out of play-off final. Middlesbrough now play Hull in the final.
Deserved punishment, feel for the fans though.

If you can be kicked out of the playoffs for having a dude in a tree near a training ground then imagine the punishment on the way for Man City…
different league so different ruling bodies?
the EPL could learn a thing or 2 from them…
Seems it’s not the first time.
Also probably more than 3.
EFL put its foot down again. It’s the only way to be honest. I bet Matt Le Tisser will have some conspiracy theory for it.
Glad I won’t have to see his face during the final. Should be a good game.
It appears that Southampton will appeal and that a different panel will hear the appeal.
The appeal will be made on Wednesday, i.e. today for most of the world.
Well he would say that wouldn’t he… ![]()
Every other club has leant not to admit it. Not that I’m condoning it but makes a mockery of the slap on the wrist City haven’t even got. Why do they get to appeal the process indefinitely while other clubs - like Southampton here - have their punishment metted out instantaneous
Apparently when they spied on Ipswich they were training at Eastleigh FC, the local non league ground, and their spy was “disguised” in an Eastleigh top.. the next James Bond maybe ![]()
Is it because the Football League takes corruption seriously. I also notice that as well as being denied the possibility of promotion this season, Southampton have also been docked 4 points for next season.
If the Premier League applied that to City’s 115 charges, then it would see next season start with 460 points deducted from Everton.
Different organizations I know but at this point anything less than stripping Man City of all their titles would feel inadequate.
I think the club should be sent to the bottom of the pyramid with a 20 year bar from playing in the football lesgue. That would get rid of the owners and the club could eventually resurface in 25-30 years time
Back in the 1st division like they were 20-30 years ago.
I think it is a bit ingenuous of people comparing this level of cheating to Man City and their cheating. It would be like critisasing the police for taking longer to arrest a serial killer that has mudered 115 victims taking their bodies through various countries before feeding the bodies to sharks compared to someone that has filmed themselves killing someone and posted that film onto social media.
Yes it is frustrating that the City case is taking so long, but the P/L have seen the distain that City and their lawyers have for following the rules, so they need to ensure that everything is completely clean and impossible for their lawyers to have excluded.
