There indeed was. I applied to join but must have been blackballed as I was refused membership. I never really wanted to join anyway 
I think you could read the posts but not contribute. It was an attempt by the cognoscenti to educate the rest of us plebs without being challenged..
The Old Bastions?
I think it was more down to the TIA main site’s ambitions to be taken seriously as a place for Liverpool related discussion and debate and the forum had degenerated into in-jokes and insults.
I think the site admins felt there should be a place where serious discussion could happen without being derailed.
I don’t think I posted there much, I’m not much of a football intellectual. I’m more vibes-centric lol.
I wouldn’t have said it was secret, though, the idea was very much that it would present a good first impression to anyone stumbling across the site for the first time.

There was a sub forum on TIA, many years ago and I think it was called the Bastions.
I was in it for a while, and had received some warnings about baiting Cardiffpete and Showmethemoney…
Anyway, you could propose someone for membership, and I was getting increasingly fed up with Showmethemoney’s nonsense and Dragonshadow almost protecting him.
BTW, this is beginning to sound like a fantasy novel?
So, I proposed Showme for membership, just to annoy the Dragon. It did, and he banned me. No special protection in the inner circle, so to speak.
I suppose that was a clique of sorts, just not a very tight one.

Yeah, that was it, the Bastions, and it was kept secret from the rest of the forum. Only longer standing members deemed levelheaded enough were invited in there. At some point, it was dismantled, possibly because there weren’t enough levelheaded members anymore in there, I don’t remember… 
We have nothing of the sort on this forum, at least not that I’m aware of… 
But back then, we also made the attempt speaken about above: a section which was there for everyone to read, but only for selected members to post in there, with the mission to only post informative and/or thoughtful posts. As @ZinedineBiscan said, it was set out as an example of how the forum should work as a whole, and to motivate newer members to raise the level of their posts. I’m not sure if we kept this until the TIA forum was dismantled and we created TAN, or if it was deleted before that. Anyone remembers?

I do recall something from TIA. I was informed by a few different members in private that thre was a discussion and a want for me to be banned between some members in a private area, that these people were also able to access, and that i should be careful.
I didn’t heed the warning. 
What was your name on TIA?
the same as on here. talking of cliques. I was friendly with livvy , maria , scott jones, sbym and alrightnow.. oh cynicaloldgit and flobs… red jedi? i think was his name.. commando and quite a few others
