This is what he does, donât take it personally. He shits on Thiago and that signing all the time but doesnât like it if others do it to other players.
Of course but itâs a trend Iâm more concerned about. We used to be the fittest, the fastest, the strongest team⌠we are none of that anymore and our signings take us further awayâŚ
We will see if we can raise the level this season, I mean, we will bloody have to if we want to achieve some European qualification. If not, then have a better pre-season than last. But that is more general.
Nunez is actually someone who combines very good strength with very good pace. That aspect wonât be the potential issue with him, some other aspects might be.
Itâs early days for Gakpo. Thereâs style and thereâs quality. He can be a success or a flop for us regardless if heâs slow or fast.
Itâs clear that we will look to add two dynamic CMâs this summer also.
Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz came into teams in form, winning and banging in goals for fun.
We were able to give them time and give them minutes without big pressure.
Cody is younger then Sadio, Mo, Bobby, Luis, Diogo when they joined and is coming from a weaker league. He joined a team out of form, struggling to score and plagued with injuries (especially in attack).
Anyone remembering how long it took Fabinho to get used to the way we play?
This is real life and not a video game.
Give him time and donât jump on his back like rival fans do.
Nothing spectacular in comparison to the likes of how some other signings kicked off immediately. But multiple factors could be affecting that.
We would want him to provide the spark because of the situation we are in. Else, we would have been happy to give him time, which worked wonders for likes of Robbo etc.
Itâs a point that is always worth making, and then remaking. But, it isnât just the lack of impact that is noteworthy. It is the lack of even glimpses of any reason weâd have been interested in him that is going to justifiably raise questions. It is unfortunate for him that he has been thrust straight into action and required to hit the ground running, but when you make a midseason transfer for a side that is struggling you kind of have to expect that be the role youâre asked to play.
Just chill for a bit and let him be is my approach. Heâs come into a team thatâs playing crap and weâve gone âHere you go Gakky lad, weâve got the shittest version of Salah next to you and a midfield that literally doesnât function. Get on with it.â
When we signed him, that was certainly not the moment we decided weâre going for it. Back then, Bobby was still probably fit or training or we didnât know he was going to have a setback. Itâs possibly more because of Diazâs injury, having no serious option on the left. Plus the possibility to play central, on the back of what he did at the WC. The rest, if there are other scenarios waiting to happen maybe in the summer, weâll see. For now, Iâm counting on those 6 forwards for next season.
You have to pay ÂŁ80m for a 22 year old playong his first season as a regular starter.
You have to pay ÂŁ20m for a teenager who looks raw in the MLS.
Its ÂŁ35m to sign a player from PSV who isnât even a starter for them at 20 years old.
Even clubs like Bournemouth are having to spend nearly ÂŁ30m to bring in forwards that we wouldnât touch with a barge pole.
Getting an established Dutch international with a couple of good seasons behind him for âourâ price of ÂŁ40m - the same range we paid for Diaz, Mane, Salah and Jota - probably felt like a deal that had to be taken or weâd be looking at spending ÂŁ80m to get someone this summer.
For me, he lacks that little aggression. Everything seems so passive. He tries to press but then stops short of getting fully to his man.
For todayâs game against Brighton, had Harveyâs shot come back off the post, the Brighton defender wouldâve probably cleared it away as Gakpo started to do a silly get his feet in the right position dance rather than following the ball in case it doesnât go in.
Same when the ball is obviously going to be crossed into the box. For that header chance when Salah gets to it, Gakpo should be screaming and then not stopping but actually going through with his action. Had Salah just left it, which he shouldâve done, imo Gakpo wouldâve struggled to the ball as he had already given it up in his head. JOta in that position youâd see him jumping and getting his head to where the ball wouldâve gone had Salah not touched it.
Itâs frustrating to watch him looking at the defender with the ball and covering a passing lane to the man behind him, then deciding to trigger the press by going to the defender but stopping short of him, allowing the defender to pass simply to the man he was originally blocking the passing lane to. Happens over and over.
Wish Klopp would shift Gakpo wide left when Darwin is introduced.
Thatâs probably related to what @Limiescouse was talking about in Salahâs thread, itâs probably such that we can utilise him better dropping deep, and then he gets two options ahead of him coming in from the flanks.
