Thats confidence and learning the pace of the premiership… Considering he’s 19 and thats one of a couple of rough edges, I have high hopes for him. I agree he does slow us down sometimes though.
I don’t understand the obsession with moving the ball on quickly every time. Good players put their foot on the ball and look for openings or try to manipulate the angles, not just pass it to the first person they see.
Jones did play well last night.
No, good players have seen the openings before they receive the ball.
Oh yeah, all those openings created by amazing movement that we’ve been seeing recently.
I thought Jones was really good last night. There was one move where someone pings a cross field ball at him at incredible pace, and he just kills it on the spot.
Oh dear. So a player has to play one or two touch all the time?
I was critical of him after the Newcastle game but he had to me shown enough to suggest he was developing, yesterday he came on and his first touches were to surge forward and grab the game.
It resulted in a goal and the rest is history, he will be a mainstay in years to come.
Today, plus his last 3 performances, settles it for me. I can’t see how anybody, including Klopp, thinks Shaqiri, Chamberlain or Milner are a better option in midfield.
It’s absurd he’s sometimes behind the pecking order with those 3. He’s obviously the best of the 4 and has the most potential to improve. He should be playing as much as possible.
One of his best all round performances so far, yeah. Almost no mistake defensively and without the ball, he even stopped a few of their attacks in front of our box. Good in tight spaces, shows his well known technique and bravery. He shouldn’t be an automatic starter because he also had some lower performances for a while, but at least we know we can work with this and trust him more little by little. I was slightly disappointed when Klopp took him off (maybe he was struggling physically, I don’t know), though we went for a double change. It’s exactly in those first minutes when City won the game with a few minutes in our half and that piece of action.

I wonder what was the reasoning behind his substitution. I actually imagined Alcantara going off for AOC. I understand Klopp’s reluctance to play Jones more often, I think Guardiola did something similar with Foden and it’s now paying dividends for Man City - I hope it will pay dividends for Liverpool as well.
Overall, he’s been inconsistent so far, as is expected of a player barely out of his teens, but at least his highs are much higher than those of Shaqiri and AOC. It’s a crying shame that he’s not able to develop with Henderson by his side and Fabinho behind him them a midfield three, though, maybe we would have seen him get more minutes in a settled side.
Personally I think too much is made of his inconsistency. Which one of our midfielders has been consistent? Even Gini and Henderson have had a number of dreadful games, and Fab had about 10 shockers in 2020.
Jones’ base/average level has been much higher than the 3 players i mentioned IMO, and its that simple for me.
I’m a bit baffled why he isn’t getting a full game, really no need to bring him off today.

Yeah, I thought Wijnaldum looked tired. Puzzling.
I can’t think of a single reason he isn’t 1st on the teamsheet until Hendo/Fabinho is back. Even ahead of Thiago.
Baffling decision to hold him back, not playing v’s Brighton I will never understand Klopps thinking.
Seems odd, fairly rested yes he has had his poor performances but so has everyone else.
Should have stayed on today, have no issue removing Thiago but baffled by the Jones change, was our best player.
Expected assists needs work, sell him!
Nah! just blame that on Salah (sorry @AnfieldRdDreamer
or any other favor of the month (Oh: wait …)).
