Curtis JONES: 2020/21

Looks like Emile Smith Rowe.

Looks like he had a 70’s porn star moustache at 15yrs old!

I feel that he isn’t getting as much respect as he should be due to our struggles. He is quietly being brilliant especially for his age!

So much wanking over ā€œEnglish attacking midfieldersā€, yet they really don’t have a lot of proper midfielders or #8’s (some are even playing in attacking roles). Comes from the same people who used to criticize England’s balance in midfield in 00’s, now suddenly they want all of them to be called up (Micah Richards really is a childish idiot). Jones actually playing deeper in that role a lot more than almost all of them.

1stly a little groan, are those 'graphs deliberately unreadable?
Yes he’s great and I feel we might have another TAA on our hands. But hey don’t start spreading the news outside here let’s just go on quietly appretiating him on here. I certainly don’t want to here English pundits spouting crap about him.

It’s still (very) early days, but what’s his best position? I feel he is more of an attacking midfielder than a box to box type. To me, he is very similar to Lallana.

I’d say any midfield role that allows him to get forward; I also like him in the attacking role but he can evidently do more than that.

Yeah can see your point, especially as I think he takes one too many touches at times.

Id like to see him release the ball a lot quicker especially in transition, tends to slow it down and can be a bit indecisive at key moments.

I think he’s surprisingly good at the defensive side, he’s not the one dimensional attacking mid (Lampard style) people assumed! Used to think he’d be a Louis Alberto type but think he can be more now. I wouldn’t be surprised if he can become a mini Gerrard. Able to play in CM defensively capable (although hopefully a bit less reckless) but also able to be creative and an attacking presence. Gerrard was regularly pushed forward because of thar but had the defensive side to be able to play in a Klopp CM in his physical prime but still contribute more to the attack than our CMs do. Jones could become a real great CM for us in a double pivot or as an 8 in 3 man midfield or he could still become a bit of a Coutinho type.

He is very tentative at the moment in his play…
When his confidence grows, he will probably dominate in the role more…

Right

Can I request that people please stop posting in player threads. I have this growing dread that every time someone pops to the top of my unread list I’m filled with a sense of dread that something terrible has happened, be that another injury or some other horrible thing.

The subtle change in shape allowed him more freedom tonight. Instead of doing his Gini impersonation that he slips into sometimes he played with ambition and confidence tonight. Excellent performance.

I’ve praised him recently and again another good match, have to say he has stepped up.

I dared to think about his performances and his long term future but then the camera immediately panned to him and he had bags of ice on both of his knees and I’m frightened now. I think he’ll be better suited to a possession-based side that is not afraid to recycle the ball and pass it around with more patience and better movement, which I hope Klopp turns Liverpool into. With him, Alcantara and Jota, that should be the next step, I think.

Maybe it’s why he doesn’t play 90 minutes.

@ISMF should write a script that appends ā€œfitness permittingā€ to every post written in player threads.

MOTM surely for me in last night’s match. He plays himself into the game at his age, that shows confidence, maturity and fire in his belly. And I think having 2 behind him like Gini and Thiago helps him to play confidently in the ā€œ8ā€ position. Moving forward surely, he will give Klopp a thought that he is a strong contender for the role that Keita was meant to play for us. Without Thiago and Gini, my perfect midfield trio previously would have Hendo, Fabinho and Keita. But now I think Jones might be good enough to push Keita out of consideration, which is good for the team really. And add in Thiago, and I also believe we need to replace Gini in the market this coming season, plus Milner, we still have a world class midfield.
