Curtis JONES: 2022/23

I love to see players with Joneses ability on the ball, but for me he needs to take the next step up in being creative with his passing especially as he showed it in youth football, this is the area that is holding him back. However against Napoli it was good to see him pop up in a couple of goal scoring positions.

I had big hopes for him and atm he has underwhelmed me in what he has produced, but I hope he fulfills his promise and maybe a period of being injury free may help.

Youre good, I understood once I read the posts above it haha

By far his biggest issue has been availability. I find it odd to hear complaints of him not having kicked on as much as expected when heā€™s only 21, broke into the side that was about the win the title and played a significant role in the side that a historic run at the 4 major trophies in a season quest.

I read a great one the other day, basically after 5 years heā€™s failed to establish himself in the first teamā€¦ So yes from the tender age of 16 heā€™s failed to break into a PL and CL winning/competing 1st team comprised of some of the best players in the worldā€¦

This is his 4th season in the first team. He broke in at around the same age as Foden did at City and over that 3 year spell their number of appearances are pretty similar (Jones actually a few more). So, heā€™s 21 and a player the management are thrilled to have back and available, and has tracked a path almost identical to a supposedly generational talent down the road. And yet people expected more from him?

I read a lot a Klopp and players with adversity if the eye thing was as serious as suggested it may drive Jones on.

Freak crap like that can happen and thankfully it doesnā€™t seem to have left it damaged. He played well Wednesday in a role that was new to us watching him.

100% agree, hence why it was hilarious the expectations placed on him.

The season after winning the title was when he finally broke properly into the first team squad. Got a new number, it was clear to everyone that heā€™d get games, etc. Had some good little periods and games since then. But Klopp told between the lines last season (when he was fit) that he expects more of him. Heā€™s a good talent, but wouldnā€™t go too far with him. Weā€™ll see how he develops, if he does and how long does that merit a place at Liverpool.

Yeah, noticed that the other day he wore the same model as Bobby and Mo. Nike are slowly getting rid of a lot of them. Different strategy.

How come?

So this deal takes him to the age of 26.

Well hereā€™s to hoping he can repay some of that faith back the club believes he can fulfil & start actually performing like a Liverpool player should.

Nice. Our long term squad player has extended his contract.

Being a scouser and a Liverpool fan all his life will make it easier for him to sit on bench most of the time.

Good luck to Curtis Jones. He is a good player. If he can keep himself fit, thereā€™s no reason why he canā€™t have a big future here.

Whether that is as more of a squad man or first teamer remains to be seen, but thereā€™s no need to stick the boot in!

Interesting quote from the interview here as posted by @mattyhurst in the pre-match thread.

What? That he mentions the 6 role?

He played the single pivot role once in the cup (as did Lallana 2-3 times) I think, Norwich away in early 21/22.
