Curtis JONES: 2025/26

We’ve got no players we are having to play our midfielder in defence. If it’s a way to force Slot just sack the guy.

He’s been better than Macca and Gravenberch in most games.

Weird, weird turn of events. Can only imagine this is another homegrown player Slot is forcing out

I’d be wary to lay it at Slot.

Of course it isn’t, they can sack Slot when they want, without any extra moves like this.

I also highly doubt it’s Slot forcing the player out, why would the club accept that?

If anything, there’s more chances of the player actually being more open to this and the club considering it.

But this would be stupid now in my opinion.

I wouldn’t sanction a loan to buy move with Italian clubs even if he has 18 months left.

As I said all I can think of is we made clubs aware he was available for sale and Italian club as they do have come in on a loan.

I don’t buy that fraud for a second and is it StevieJay and his source that suggested we were open to selling about 3 weeks back?

Liverpool will keep Jones amid Inter interest

Liverpool will not sanction the departure of any senior players before the transfer window closes after Inter Milan showed interest in a loan move for Curtis Jones (Paul Joyce writes).

Inter midfielder Davide Frattesi is considering a switch to Nottingham Forest prompting the Italian club to consider reinforcements.

Jones has 16 months left on his contract and reports in Italy indicate Inter proposed a loan deal with a view to a €40million transfer. Sources at Inter accept the idea was a long shot and, as with Andrew Robertson and Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool are not in a position to consider exits. Jones missed the Champions League win over Qarabag in midweek but is expected to be back in the squad for Newcastle’s visit.

I can’t believe Slot would do this

Slot alone doesn’t have the power to do this.

[this] the thing that isn’t happening

When I first heard, the only way I could make sense of it was that we were signing Bastoni, but even then, I don’t want to lose Jones. Glad it’s not happening.

If this has legs it is very hard to see a reason for it.
He has had a good season compared with some, but of course we can’t have local lads playing for us…just wont do.
Letting a Good player go in January and while we are struggling, makes no sense, makes you wonder what is going on behind the scenes.

We cant let anyone go. Mustve have one of the smallest squads in the league as it is

We will have a huge homegrown problem if we let him go now, even though he is not good enough to be a regular starter at a title contending team.

He is though , and on current form he’s better than both MacAllister and Gravenberch.

If I was him, I’d take a leaf out of Mainoo’s book - let the storm pass and wait for the head coach to be sacked before coming back from the wilderness. Jones isn’t a world beater, probably never will be, but he’s a very good player who’s always been in the team on merit. Fitness permitting, he’ll only get better because his technical ability is outstanding.

Congratulation, you have ended up nailing the problem here:

Macca and Grav were world beaters last season, and now they are worse than Jones .

It is not a coincidence that Jones starts regularly in the 3 following seasons:

  • 2022/23
  • 2023/24
  • 2025/26

In both 2022/23 and 2025/26, our stalwart midfielders declined greatly, that’s why coaches had to use him.

In 2023/24, Klopp’s insistence on keeping Jones as LCM and forcing Macca to play as CDM eventually doomed our title run.

Do you really think that one player, someone like Curtis Jones of all people, can decide whether Liverpool have a good or bad season and “dooms our title run”?

Mate, you’ll like the first part: he’s not that good, but he’s not that bad either. He’s not that influential.

:joy:

I understand if you don’t rate him (I have my own players who I don’t rate), but you have something seriously weird against him.

He was never really a regular starter during a whole season. Multiple factors decide that.

For example, our 22/23 season was generally shit, but when Jones came back in autumn, he was one of our best performers alongside Trent.

Curtis Jones is home grown and would really deplete that vital part of the squad if he goes. It should be a non-starter, and hopefully the rumor is rubbish.

Beyond that, for me his level is plenty good enough to play in the team. This season he has been better than Macca, for example, although the latter seems to be coming back to form now. If all our midfielders are fit and at their best, Jones would probably be on the bench. But at the least, even if you don’t especially rate him, he is a valuable, home grown rotation option.

Should be a non-starter.

Has there been some sort of falling out with Slot?
