He felt like a Menace in the last two games
He played well against Arsenal but was let down by his team mates. Several times he made a great run in behind but the pass to him was either delayed or never came at all.
My Gooner friend was having a go at Darwin, saying he kept going offside, 5-6 times. I said itâs not him, but rather itâs a lack of time spent, and his teammates arenât on the same wavelength yet and passing early enough, and in the way that will see Nunez kick on for us.
It will come, but this is a transitional season, for various reasons.
He fizzles out towards the end of games probably because he is still short on fitness but other than that he offers everything that youâd want from a forward. Really good finishing with both feet and head, pressing and excellent movement in space. He is a magnet for goal scoring opportunities.
If the team performed anywhere near its usual standards, he would have been in double figures already.
I havenât watched many games so far, this season but during the Arsenal game, I struggled yet again to see anything special in this lad. Hopefully heâll prove me wrong, but to me, he looked often clumsy, and at times completely unaware of his position. He looked inefficient and mostly disconnected from his team-mates, and in his role of âfirst defenderâ, his counterpressing was basically useless (to be fair with him, Salah wasnât better than him on any of these points).
Iâll obviously not condemn him on the base of that game, in which every single Liverpool player was below par, but in any case, heâs doesnât seem to be the kind of player who will take a game by the scruff of the neck and rescue something for us even in adverse circumstances (a thing ManĂ© used to do on a regular basis). His morale seemed to plummet at the same rate than the rest of the team against Arsenal.
Yup, weâll keep supporting him but Iâm still unconvinced. Was offside so many times when he didnât need to be. Still early days though
Itâs odd, because he was so frustrating with the offsides, and I wasnât completely convinced with his defending either, but the way he just runs at defenders, often I got confused as to which one of our players actually had the ball, he looks like he could quite easy replicate ManĂ©âs work on the win for us, which is interesting.
I think its more the rest of the team need to be aware of his runs and thread the ball into his path, Jota was guilty of not giving him a pass and he would have been in on goal.
I thought he was excellent against Arsenal.
Held the ball up well, put a couple of decent crosses into the box, movement was excellent and scored a goal.
One or two of the offsides were lazy from him, but otherwise it was the fault of his teammates not releasing the ball quickly enough. WTF Jota was doing with that cross field switch to Salah when Nunez could have been put in on goal is beyond me.
He was the best player in red on the day, a constant threat until he tired.
I would say the last two games suggest he is very low on the reasons to be concerned.
Skill wise Iâm not sure i disagree. But he has size and pace. More importantly he has what Suarez had - the willingness to do absolutely anything to score a goal and win a game over and over again from the first whistle until he drops.
That comes with some silly red cards and he wonât ever get many style points but everyone else in the league will absolutely hate playing against him.
He wasnât as good as he was in the last two games, but that was one sweet strike. Loved the way he went for precision instead of power.
Yep happy he got the goal because he was off it last night, Davies to his credit defended him very well.
Keep him in the team now & weâll reap the rewards from it.
McGregor also looked pretty short/old/slow on a few of our goals last nightâŠ
Liverpoolâs Darwin Nunez has played a total of 400 odd minutes and scored 4 goals while Arsenalâs Gabriel Jesus has played 800 odd minutes and scored 5 goals.
One flopped while the other is the signing of the season.
