Play him down the left and Mo in the middle. Will favour both of them
And who plays on the right?
Also, when fit, where does Diaz play?
Itâs a tricky one. But I agree that Nunez can play off the left, too. He can use his considerable pace to open it up, and cut inside on his right.
One has been a key figure in making his side the most improved side in the league this year and current league leaders.
The other is someone whose profligacy in front of goal saw him wind himself up to the point of picking up a stupid suspension covering 1/3 of our league games so far at significant cost to us given our other personnel problems.
It would be stupid to write off Darwin off the back of his start. I always point to the positive comparisons people were making of Jelavic over Suarez after their first half seasons in merseyside. But no one should downplay how good a signing Gabriel has been for Arsenal so far either.
Long term we should be looking at going back to the 433. Salah wide right, Diaz left, Jota/Nunez through the middle. Jota can also play left.
There was nothing wrong with that basic set up at all, and Nunez can fit into it in the same way Jota did. The central player doesnât have to be a Firmino clone.
Obviously weâre struggling with the 433 this season, both due to a whacky tactical approach and all of our midfield injuries and not having the requisite personnel to fulfill the roles in there.
Ideally weâd change that in the next two transfer windows and revert back to something like what we used to do.
However, I think we are in transition from 433 and one good RW away from switching to 4231.
Weâd cut the team in half with that move. Not enough link up qualities.
This has been said/wished for about 5 years now.
Salah doesnât want to be a #9 and I donât think we want that (to be his first position) either.
Very good point, didnât think of that
For context see Mbappeâs strop in Paris over having to play this role.
Itâs the new generation.
Donât want to carry the responsibilities of a #9 nor of a proper winger either. Ronaldo, Mbappe, Salah, etc.
Released in the half space with a bit more freedom than other players and left alone.
Absolutely. There are not many elite goal scorers thee days who play as a genuine striker, which is in part what makes players like Kane, Lewi, Benzema so valubale.
Front three aside, I feel the midfielders we had were perfect for Trent and Robbo to be the creative outlet. But if we are transitioning into a side where the front 6 would be key in creating, especially the midfield would it mean a new RB would suit us better for that set up? It could probably mean Trent becomes one of the midfielder we have been looking for.
I dont think that is necessary. Aggressive forward thinking full backs with good delivery have always been part of Kloppâs good sides, even ones that played a more obvious 4-2-3-1. Trent doesnt need to move from FB to fit in that side. If anything he just needs to go back to being more of a FB, a move that already plays to his strengths.
Yeah, could be for sure. I believe the Dortmund side also had Piszcek and Schmelzer I think which were if I remember had similar job of moving up and down the pitch more than usual full backs do. I am just trying to make sense of having Nunez in middle, Salah further down right thereby Trent not having that much space to provide the width which in our previous set up seemed easier given Salah played more inwards give Bobby dropped back.
To be fair though I think thatâs what @RedOpium was trying to say? Not so much bringing Jesus down but commenting how the negative the narrative around NĂșñez isâŠ
Diazâ injury came at a really bad time but I wonder if Klopp would go 4-4-2, with Nunez and Salah up top, Jota on the left and someone (Elliott, Henderson or AOC?) on the right. That could be risky but anything that can help the lads regain their self-confidence would be a good start for me.

Piss off
Of which team though?
