Darwin NUNEZ: 2022/23

We’ve beaten city, and that’s your contribution. Have a fucking word with yourself.

He scared them, put himself about and did well. Should have passed the ball but doesn’t matter in the end.

It is only by making these mistakes early in his tenure that they will be analysed thoroughly and corrected at Kirkby…
This guy is going to become a monster

I would be worried if he wasn’t involved. That isn’t the case though. He’ll be scary when he puts those properly in back of the net and ups his decision making a little. Nothing that cannot be fixed. He’ll be defender’s nightmare in his years here.

I was livid when Salah refused to pass it to Jota (I think) and when Nunez decided to do the same in what was almost a mirror image of our attacking players’s positions. That said, if he’s confident enough to keep running at players the way he did against what is probably the strongest Man City side ever, and be successful at that, I won’t have many qualms. Who knows, if that was Salah at the other end of his cross rather than Trent, that might have been one of the best goals we scored this season.

That said, these lads better fucking learn to pass when their teammates are better positioned to score.

Yeah, was gonna say, everything that Nunez ‘did wrong’ Salah had already done at least once in the game. Elliott made some poor decisions in good positions.

But because Darwin doesn’t score from the bench against one of the best teams in the country, he’s a mug?

Obviously he’s raw and needs to calm down a bit but he did exactly what we would have wanted him to today. Picked the ball up, bullied and outpaced the City defenders and got us up the pitch.

That sort of threat meant City couldn’t just camp outside our box with the ball. Can pick holes in a couple of his decisions but that was a positive impact, not a negative one.

He did exactly what he needed as a time when City started to build up the most concerted period of being on the front foot. Darwin’s ability to get the ball down to run at them and get them going back towards their goal seemed critical. It was this pain in the arse characteristic as much as the goals themselves that seemingly convinced us to go with him, and the idea is that the goals will come as a secondary factor if this pain in the arsery continues.

Yeah, that’s harsh, we have to be patient and realistic. People outside of the club want him to fail because he cost a lot, people who support our club want him to hit the ground running immediately for the same reason. Lad doesn’t understand English, we’ll be lucky if he’s become good at Portuguese at least, and he’s come into a dysfunctional side.

There was a moment against Arsenal where he tracked back to left back to prevent a great counter-attack for Arsenal, there were moments today where he was a torment for Man City’s right side. If he becomes consistently good at stuff like this, he’ll get to score more goals as well. His conversion rate is atrocious at this moment but I’d rather see his decision-making improve first, the goals will likely come afterwards.

The raw attributes are there Excellent cameo when running with power with the ball.

But the three on one Klopp will need to have a word. Salah has earned the right to take a shot on, as he provides a lot of assists as well.

Watch it again. Jota’s run in a straight line right down the middle took away the pass to Mo and allowed the 1 defender to occupy both support players. I turned a 3-1 into a situation where Nunez had no really good passes on.

What Jota needed to do was pull away towards the left and get outside Nunez. That would have given Nunez 3 genuine options. it either forces the 1 defender into a decision, or he does nothing and leaves Nunez with 2 easy passes, one either side of him. Honestly, disappointing from jota as its really textbook stuff he didnt do.

There might have been a fraction of a moment where the avenue opened up to get it over to Mo, but rather than forcing it he actually did the right thing, just with a tame shot.

Love the guy, yes he shouldv’e got his head up and played Mo in but it was another lively cameo.

The chance he set up for Trent was another bit of quality he can come up with.

He’s starting to be a nuisance to defenders…lets go to the next stage…and put it in the net…

I predict a massive climb down from some on here when it all clicks for him which I’m absolutely convinced it will. The signs in that last couple of weeks have been really encouraging. As others have said, it’s just a case of being calmer in certain situations. I love the different dimension he has brought to this team with his pace, physique and movement in behind.

Troll a lol a lol.

I dont see much different from him now than I did in the first couple of games. He was always involved, looking to make things difficult for defenders, but just lacking quality/luck in front of goal. I think we maybe need to accept this is more a case of just who he is, someone who may score a good number of goals but more than that will be an utter pest to defend against. Goals will definitely help shape a positive perspective, but a bit like with Bobby fans may need zoom out to a higher level to really appreciate what he brings.

We have seen this from Salah too over the years, in fact from all top scorers, it is in their nature to be a bit selfish. IMHO it is their strength and sometimes their weakness too.

His pace and power helped us when he came in, as it stretched the game a bit. Ok, he might have finished the 1v1 (I think he was offside anyway) and he should have played Mo in when we were were on the break late on, but that stuff is some rawness that will be smoothed as he integrates.

He’s a threat, but is only going to get better.

Anyway, 1-0 against the sports washing cheats from Manchester. Get in!

I remember a young Ian Rush saying in an interview that Sir Bob had told him to be more selfish when he was in his early days at Anfield.
