I thought it was Virg as well.
Goodness this clip really highlights how out of form Fabinho is. Presses three times and gets nowhere near the ball.
Same as mate was a pleasant surprise lol
The most scrutinized player in this countryā¦Itās so weird youāve got Grealish, Sancho and Philips all big money signings absolutely stinking the place out and this fella is bagging every 70 minutes or something. The whole country is anti Liverpool.
The prevailing narrative is often dumb and disconnected from reality, but Darwin did things early on that contributed to the criticism of him and his purchase. He now just needs to keep his head down and keep doing what heās been doing and eventually the narrative will flip. And if it doesnāt, as long as he support of Klopp and the team then meh.
The fact he doesnt speak any english will probably help him block out how silly the talk about him is.
Iām finding the criticism of him holding the ball up a little rich when every single forward player under klopps tenure has had numerous moments where their ball control and passing accuracy has been truly awful. Bobby is probably the best of them but Salah, Jota, and even Mane have looked like the ball was a ping pong ball at times. Even Coutinho used to drive me nuts how often heād lose the ball.
Iām beginning to think itās just a factor in trying play at break neck speed and with a counter press in the back pocket Iām not sure Klopp minds too much.
Interestingly he is 5th in Europe (if you filter out those who have played less than 90 minutes) for expected non-penalty goals + expected assists (xnpg+xa) per 90 with 1.11.
In laymans terms his current output should result in him either scoring or creating 1.11 goals per game. Hes actually ahead of Haaland in this (1.06).
The four ahead of him are Lewandowski, Fati, Mbappe and Messi.
One day theyāll catch us out and print some truth.
Donāt hold your breath, mate.
I think they do it, and everyone will start screaming āwokeā or something. So they go back to normal.
Anyway, back to Nunez. My only hope over and above what heās doing now is that he and Salah develop some kind of understanding. That could be scary.
I made sure I added āmy point of viewā. Itās probably a combination of unrealistic expectations (I really should have thought it through better but I was riding a high wave once Salah extended and the come down wasnāt nice at all) and me being a well known not-optimist (yeah, Iām a sad bastard).
Weāll see what the lads can do - Iād bite your hand off if you offered me finishing in fourth spot and the young(er) lads like Nunez, Diaz, Elliott and Jones staking a real claim for first XI spot. I feel bad for Nunez being turned into a lightning rod for criticism but he only has one way of shutting down his critics.
3 goals and 1 assist in 342 Premier League minutes, or an average of 114 minutes per goal and 85.5 minutes per goal contribution for a player who can barely communicate with his teammates. What a flop.
Heās only a lightning rod for criticism because of the narratives that keep getting thrown about unnecessarily. Heās good.
Like @cynicaloldgit says, the season has realistically only just begun, in terms of how far we can get in the competitions.
Yeah, when they get the chemistry going, will be fun to watch. Salah has already slipped in a fair good number of through balls when Darwin has made a smart run.
They now just need to get used to each others style.
The lad needs a calm head.
Those two misses were big last night, couldāve/shouldāve won us the game. Felt a bit like our set-piece chances against Forest.
As I said in match threadā¦when he has time heās terrible but an instinctive header like Weds is where he is best.
He had plenty of time to weigh up that shot into the top corner , and it was perfectly executed.
Maybe couldvāe done better with 1 of the 2 chances he had (the 1 on 1 and the lob that was on), but sometimes aswell you have to put it down to good goalkeeping and Meslier is a top keeper.
Did it go in?
