Darwin NUNEZ: 2022/23

It was a breakdown from a corner. Elliott lost this challenge on the edge of the box. The players highlighted in red are the ones who got back.

This is the widest shot available of the end of the initial break.

There is a bit of a battle in the penalty area and eventually Trent wins a tackle and Salah gets it away. van Dijk and Elliott both come back into shot while the ball is being fought for and another midfield runner for Leeds comes into shot and enters the penalty area (no. 19)

4 seconds after the initial challenge by Thiago, Fabinho comes into shot.

I definitely get what you’re saying and I think that’s a good point for Firmino, it’s not his responsibility to get back. In all honesty it’s probably not Nunez’s either. However, I definitely doubt that’s Fabinho’s role in that situation. He does eventually get back, but by the time he does several midfielders have broken, and Salah is coming out of the penalty area with the ball.

It’s the fact he is one of the slowest to react to the turnover that worries me.

Anyway I am derailing the Nunez thread apologies.

Nunez is boss.

That’s 1 clip from the season so far, I could find countless like that on every player in the squad except maybe Nunez who is the only 1 consistently showing a fighting spirit
they’re all culpable. There’s different perspectives you can look at it, for me the turnover of possession is the first line of error and if you go off the passing Fab still has 1 of the best in the squad.

Would it make sense to drop Fabinho back to CB, if he is struggling to adjust to a midfield that runs less than it did before?

No, Fab at CB has already been tested and it didn’t work.

That clip was from a corner, in open play situations he’s not that far up the field and is usually the 1 left exposed by his other 2 midfielders who can’t get back.

I can’t really remember, but hasn’t he never been one of the faster players and therefore not really present on defending counterattacks from set pieces?

Keeping it on-topic though, I don’t see how any Liverpool fan could watch Nuñéz doing that and not chuckle to themselves. Amazing engine on him, almost like an upgraded Firmino.

Can’t say Nunez doesn’t track back and defend.

Flop sell now Klopp.

I still think the 1st goal was his it looked like the whole of the ball was over the line

I thought that he was the fastest in the EPL ever? Slightly faster than Kyle Walker.:nerd_face:

I think a bit was on the line potentially but it’s close, I assume they will change it if it is.

Not ever - just so far this season. It’s suffered from inaccurate headline writing. Or what the heck let’s just keep saying it until everyone believes he’s the faster man to ever play football. I mean we don’t have definitive proof that isn’t true.

The goal-line technology goes a bit wonky when their are legs in the way

Does it?

In several games he played on wide left and he looked good. Not Diaz good, but pretty good.
