Hopefully he has learned this is the Prem now not the Portuguese league. It’s physical.
While he is suspended he can spend 3 weeks learning how to control the ball and compose himself.
Could be nerves but before the card he was awful. Early days and maybe he will need a few months to settle but the other front 4 have set very high standards.
Not worried about his play. There are areas he does need to clean up but he is a constant threat. He’ll be a beast under Klopp’s tutelage provided he stops getting rattled so easily.
Worrying signs to see him react the way he did, Klopp needs to tear him a new one and let him know, in no uncertain terms, that we do not tolerate that sort of behaviour at this club (anymore).
Absolutely correct. He’s far from the finished product and we probably tend to expect too much from him, given his huge price tag and our previous impressive successes when bringing in new players and bedding them in.
The talent is there undoubtedly, but what happened yesterday night is maybe also a sign that he might be a high-maintenance player for us, a bit like Suarez: a huge talent, but with some flaws coming with it. For instance, putting too much pressure on oneself, and then, when things don’t go well, losing one’s head.
Anyway, he’ll learn from this awful moment. The personal price to pay for him will be huge. It means weeks without first team football, and then restarting the process of integrating the first team. For Klopp and the squad, it means one less player available at a critical time in terms of injuries.
On the other hand, Kloppo’s coaching team will probably use that time to inflict a second pre-season on him, and drill his ways into him. That way, he might come back stronger and more ready than he is now, fingers crossed!
Nothing to say that hasn’t really been said. Night to forget from him, his finishing included. The miskick when they had that appeal for a handball early in the second half half was particularly awful, even a general toe poke in the direction of the goal stood a good chance of going in but that waft… yikes.
He needs to get torn a new one for his attitude on the pitch as well. We don’t do that here.
In some ways, but he’s nowhere near the level that Suarez, or even Diaz, were when they joined. He’s undoubtedly a threat, and has great potential, but seems as raw as they come currently. Was like a rabbit in the headlights last night
I think that he puts too much pressure on himself currently. Instead of recognising his current status in the team as a newcomer who has thousands of things to learn yet, but who is surrounded by top-class players who can help him with that, he seems to think that he must save the team with his goals all by himself. There have been several reactions from him already which seem to indicate this, and yesterday was clearly a reaction to being frustrated by his inability to do that.
Maybe it’s the competition set up by the media between him and Haaland getting to his head? Or the monstrous price tag? Or simply a highly competitive streak he has in himself, combined with a too big ego?
Anyway, it’s a learning curve for him, and we just need to be patient and wait for him to hopefully cut out these rough edges. Klopp and his team will do the utmost to help him with that.
Agree with all of that, and am sure it’s disorienting coming to a new country, learning language etc. You can see it on his face. Kid looked lost after the missed chances and the red.
Klopp is the best person to help him on the journey. Am sure he would love to have introduced him more slowly if Jota was fit
A 3 match ban, while not ideal for the team, might work out ok for Darwin. Take him out of the spotlight for a while, then hopefully Jota back and banging the goals in when he returns
Since his arrival…we only see a glimpse of what happens…but he always looks alost soul going onto the pitch…wouldnt suprise me if as soon as he can…he goes…
