Darwin Núñez (FW) Benfica

VVD…far too much for a defender/unproven at the top level

Now a player I do know a bit about, I think his performances have really waned in recent years

Whether that is due to Juve being rubbish but he was coming off the bench at times last season. He’s hardly at his peak. Whether this is form or permanent who knows.

One thing I do trust is our set up, people will point to Edwards going but the whole system on who we approach is still there.

Also Portuguese football always seems a very defensive league especially once you get past the first three. Diaz fit like a glove so the proof will be in what he produces. I don’t have an issue with the club spending whatever it feels is right for a player. It looks like 68m pounds plus add ons which will if paid mean he has been a success

If this was the Comolli era then I’d cringe, but like with Diaz, Konate and so on I trust them.

I think he is a little bit like the Rashford of Italian football. Did amazingly well at Palermo as a kid and looked to have the world at his feet and then just kind of stagnated. It’s partly injuries, partly the mismanagement of Juve and introduction of Ronaldo leaving him without a real role, but also some young kids just dont take that step to reach the levels of superstar status they looked like they were destined for. He’s now 28 and he has barely ever been any better than the 22 year old version of himself at Palermo.

Jesus. He needs to get off the fucking fence. Is he any good?

He needs laid

I’ve enjoyed reading every comment in this thread the past few hours, some real laughs out of it. Wish I was as funny as you guys.

thanks, doing my best :slightly_smiling_face:

that’s the question, hey. Is he worth the salary. Can he replicate some of his 100+ Juve goals in EPL. Could he find the net from 20+ yards and does he still have that magical left foot on a set piece from 25yards.

could he adapt to switch to RW from second striker in Juve’s 3-5-2 formation

only 28yrs old, feels like he’s been around longer. :person_shrugging:

Let’s get this done already! Don’t forget 10% to the big guy as well.

This thread has been open for 14 hours and he hasn’t even arrived for a medical yet. I’m really getting worried about life after Edwards.

More seriously though, the way this news is breaking suggests a deal that will be done sooner than later at a fair fee given the market.

I doubt he is as good as Mane right now, but he will almost certainly be the better player 3-4 years from now.

Having expressed that I’m not sure whether he is any good for us, I feel I must - for full disclosures sake - revisit some previous opinions on players we were about to sign.

Jordan Henderson

Will probably do as a squad player for a few years, but £16m is stupid money. We could get two good midfielders for that. Charlie Adam was only £8m

Christian Benteke.

I’m all in on a player that can knack a defender with a shoulder barge. Looks an absolute unit and knows where the back of the net is. Should do well for us.

Thiago Ilori

I think he’s going to be an elite centre back. He should box that position for ten years.

Sadio Mane

Not optimistic. Not a great record. It’s all but underwhelming with the names with been linked to. Southampton might be his level.

Mohamed Salah

Can’t see the point. We’ve already got Mane on the right, and Salah doesn’t really play anywhere else. Looks a bit lightweight for the PL, and has already flopped at Chelsea. And the last thing we need is another lad fucking off to AFCON every two years.

Ibrahima Konate.

Avoid like the fucking plague. Horrific injury record, and god knows why we’re spending 40m on another centre back with a dodgy attendance record.

Mamadou Sakho

What of player he looks. You don’t captain PSG at that age without being really good. Great on the ball and an absolute unit off it.

Lloris Karius

Second best keeper in Germany after Neuer. Should solve the goalkeeper issue for years.

Andy Robertson

Looks alright, and will be a decent back up. Feels a bit weird to get him in before getting the first choice in. If we can get a couple of years out of him before selling him to Bournemouth we’ll have done well.

Ben Davies

I think he’s being a bit written off, but he is really highly regarded by Preston fans. Could surprise us all by being really good.

Ozan Kabak

If Shalke are willing to let him go for ten million, we should be all over that. Really good defender who’s done well for us. Would hate to see him go to another PL club and it come back to haunt us.

I can’t believe Brendan didn’t try to take you to Leicester with him to be his chief scout.

Probably agree with you on Kabak, Robertson,Sakho and Henderson but that Benteke one is a shocker.

It was the deal that worried me that even when Rodgers had started badly that we wouldn’t get rid before it was too late.

The ball is now in Benfica’s court, but with Nunez making clear he won’t listen to offers from rival clubs - including Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Newcastle - they are under pressure to accept Liverpool’s proposal rather than create a bidding war.

Looks to me like you’ve almost got a perfect track record…Of loving the ones that turned out poorly and hating the ones that became stars. Your skepticism of Nunez bodes well then.

Evidently we’ve already made a bid as Maddock is usually 3 months behind.

Coming home from the pub and no lean, disappointing …

As long as he is better than the last Uruguayan striker we signed I’ll be happy.

Or is that setting the bar too high?

He’ll be the best Nunez at Liverpool since the guy who broke his knee at his unveiling presser and then pretty much never actually played for us.

Possibly the least successful player swap deal of all time lol
