It’s very nice of Man Utd to step aside and let Liverpool have a clear run at Nunez. Very sporting. I’m sure we were all panicking about that level of competition
Also pretty funny to describe it avoiding a bidding war when Liverpool are literally just paying his release clause - albeit with some of the cash in add ons - there is no bidding war the price is the price if they match it they get to offer him a contract.
Like Carvalho, I’m really interested to see what Klopp plans for him over the season. Let’s assume Bobby stays that leaves 3 top players who prefer to play in the CF position.
What’s interesting is Núñez’s statistics on the LW from what is a very small sample size. 375’ across 5 games last season, but 10 goals for a return of a goal every 37.5’. Whereas his return from CF is a goal every 100’.
I’m interested to see how Klopp splits up the time on the left and right between Diaz, Núñez and Jota.
It’s really nice of Utd to declare they are giving Liverpool a free run at Nunez. I was getting a bit worried, with their Europa League football, unproven manager, and cat in hells chance of winning anything this year.
@Neukölln I too am a bit startled by the price tag.
Our recruitment policy/strategy has been revamped under Edwards. For the last few years, we have been targeting and paying generous amounts for proven talents. On the other hand, we have been buying potential talents for bargains. But we aren’t wasting money on the likes of Downing, Markovic, or Benteke anymore.
So, if we are spending that much money on Nunez it’s because people across the recruitment and coaching departments are unanimous about his usefulness.
I wouldnt say we have paid generous amounts I think we finally found a happy medium and in Edwards and Klopp people capable of making good decisions for players who actually fit the system.
So regardless of the actual fees we’ve paid weve got return on the investments weve made and to me it constitutes value.
Players like OX and Naby for example. Neither have set the world on fire and had we had no success you’d say they where money wasted but they’ve been part of a squad that has won every major trophy the last few years whilst we have been one of the best teams in the World.
